Truly BUMMEND guys.
My 1/4 scale RC Sprint Car sold, but this afternoon the buyer backed out. This is what she said. "New message from: cosmo00015 Could I ask a favor. I won the bid for your sprint car but my friend that we all was chipping in to buy this car for passed away late Saturday night. We have No use for it now. I m sooooo sorry it is a Very Nice Car. He saw this car when you first put it on YouTube and was shocked to see it on eBay. We all was going to surprise him for his 54 birthday but now everyone freaking out. Let Me Know. Sorry END- The money was going for part of a block. But I understand her situation. I may ask her to only pay my Ebay listing bill. Anyway, back to selling it. |
I may get a block and parts from him, but we will assemble the engine ourselves to save money. My friend Chad is a very good engine builder, so I'm not worried. He build a lot of race engines including ours and other teams sprint car engines.

Yes, I agree. Much faster that way and I completely trust Brent.
I just received two phone calls from members here on CC. One guy has several bock's and parts. First guy for some reason won't write down all he has, and my memory sucks, so here's some of what I was able to write down. I don't know much details. 427- side oiler block for $4,000. 428- $2,500 Shelby FE-$6,500 390 HD bored & stroked to almost 427 for $2,500 The other member has two NOS side oilers, and lots of parts, but he had to leave the conversation, so I hope he gets back to me later. |
Just because they're a member here doesn't mean you can trust them. Remember, in this hobby, assume the other guy is a crook until proven otherwise. Post their names, and what they want to sell and for how much, and we'll tell you whether your rose colored glasses are distorting your vision.

If he has blocks they are gold right now. Nobody has them.

I agree.
I can email anyone with our writings and photo's of the 427 center oiler. I just spoke with him on the phone. His name is Curtis Desaulos, AKA, Racer X. He has a stock 428 that is newly built, but I want more HP & TQ than what that engine is built for. Although I'm interested in his 427, it's a center oiler not a side oiler. He bought it from a guy that was freshing it up, but he passed away, so Curtis bought it and some Shelby parts for his Kirkham. He'll include the heads, valvetrain and a cam selection. He's going to email me with photo's of the heads and other parts. He does not have a intake. It was balanced before (see the rods pic) then after he bought it, he wanted to check it all out. He believes that with what he has and get a intake, it should be around 500 HP. I'll see if I can post all of his pics here. Here is the ad link here on CC. Looks like it has had a rod failure sometime.
Crank and block still useable? |
He thought at one time, that it may have been a small part breakage, but where the damage is it should not be a problem. It did not do any damage to the cylinders. Maybe grind it smooth ?
Hoping to get Brent to chime in. |
I don't see anything wrong with it. When you hone the cylinders, it will smooth out the bore. I always deburr the cylinder skirts anyway, so I don't see why that block would pose a problem.

Wonderful news bud.
Do you think that since the rotating assembly was balanced and cylinders market, that the rods are fine or should at least, checked for balance again ? What max RPM can these Ford rods be used safely ? He has the heads and valve train. He will sell all of it to me for $3,000. Good deal for an 427 center oiler ? Only problem is, I would expect the engine to produce 400 to 450 HP/TQ, less than I really want. (I may have located another NOS side oiler and will speak with him today) |
I would not reuse factory rods....
Personally, I would get off the 427 thing. If the budget is not there to buy a 427 block, etc., and make it make big horsepower, I would go with a stroked 390. |
Speaking with my wife last night, and we now beleive it has to be a 427 or 428. Anyhing else may be disapointing. I wont give up on finding good deal on a old or new side oiler.
|
Then I'd go with a 428. If you had to, stroke it. You're less than 20 cubic inches off from a stroked 427.
|
Do you happen to have a 428 that has been fluxed, sonic tested etc....?
|
Nope.....

I do have a 352 block that's been fully machined, pretty fancy-like.....block filled up to water pump holes, bored/honed to 4.060" with torque plates, align honed with ARP main studs, square decked with a BHJ, bronze lifter bore bushings installed. With a 4.375" stroke, you'd be at 453 cubes.
I'd take $1300 for the block, ready to assemble. Or I'd make you a little better deal if you wanted a short block built with it. |
Sure, when you have time shoot me a price short blk.
Is that the smallest FE that was manufactured ? |
