Hi Dwright, no, but when I do get the Cobra going again, I just hope nobody takes my car plate, 427HISS.

I'm sure I'm missing something, because I'm not an engine builder, but it's a hydraulic lifter block and the seller is supplying a solid lifter cam? I'm assuming there's some sort of block prep to convert the block to accept solid lifters?
An NOS 1972 service block does nothing for me. NOS only means something to buyers who have a car/truck made roughly a bit after the production date of the vehicle that originally came with a sideoiler. So the owner can falsely claim that the block was replaced under warranty or some other such nonsense.
I'd get a Big Bear or Pond Block and be done with it.

My block is a hydro and you just plug off those galleys for a solid. Nothing to it. A lot of builders actually leave them open, btw.

I agree, but for bragging rights and for me having a "virgin", new....427 side oiler in my Cobra is great. Would I do it, hum....... realisticly, probably not, unless it was a carb to oil pan NOS engine.
Fun to imagine though.
If HP didn't matter etc.......Would you have the NOS, or rather a new modern,....side oiler ?

I think I would have the carb-to-pan NOS 425hp. That's plenty and it was underrated.

That would make a great barn find.
Maybe I'll pray to the Side Oiler God.

In this instance, my understanding is the price matters more than the HP.
...and seat of the pants 500hp vs 550hp in a cobra is not distinguishable by me at least.
Further given the choice, I'd go a NEW modern block (unless I needed a date code for some specific reason). NOS just ain't, once you build it.
Question is though, can you get a new block built for the same price you can negotiate this NOS build?
Ps. Nice find by the way
Best of luck either way.

Or you could just have Brent build you the below motor but change the heads to the Kasse P51 so that the motor could fit in your car.
B2 Motorsports 529ci Engine Build - Muscle Builder - Modified Mustangs & Fords Magazine
Your new tag choices could be OTOFGAS or FEEATER but I guarantee you would probably be at your local grocery looking for adult diapers to invest in. I rode in my friends SPF Sunday with 600HP and 600TQ and that thing is fast.....he has fresh Avons and coming off those spirited runs it makes me think 700TQ and 750HP would be downright nasty.

I just went back and checked the ebay ad;
"New Keith Craft Racing Built Engine custom built from a brand new aluminum Ponds Motorsports 427 side oiler block. Stroked to 482 c.i.
New, built in 2005. Never run except by Keith Craft during dyno testing. "
So those videos are of the same engine, set up completely different than the pics and that's KC's dyno that it's hooked to? Seriously? If this were April I'd be waiting for the punch line.
It would take a special kind of gullible to get taken in by that BS.

In addition to their blocks and tunnel wedge intake that are becoming available, BBM will also be producing alloy heads that are $1,100, if you order this month, July 2016.

I've just gotta think that the OP can get a good stout FE built with new parts for around $10k! Maybe a little more (gotta have a contingency fund), but unless going extreme it seems like it should work out. I guess folks like Brent could answer that question...

Well 2 years ago, KC advertised a 390/445 FE special for $9,995.

I don't think I could do it for that.
Finishing up a 445 right now. Guy supplied his own oil pump, bare Edelbrock heads, Performer RPM intake, and an MSD distributor, and we are at around $9500. That's with a hydraulic roller, factory non-adjustable rockers, forged pistons, Scat crank/rods, new Quick Fuel carb, etc.

Then the OP needs to dig deeper, or throw in the towel. There's always a shekel or two down behind the sofa cushions, if you dig deep enough.

Erased my response. Those were CNC ported head numbers. Out of box I think Blykins said around 290 intake.

Wow! I have 325 / 235 and 82cc chambers and that wasn't out of the box. That's impressive for out of the box for sure!

Sorry those were ported numbers. I think it's more around 290.
