Though at first glance, it is "cuter" then the 65 Mustang, it was just not that practical nor functional. I would not like to think of a front end collision with the fuel tank right in front. A front lower air dam would be needed to keep it from lifting at speed. And the "roll bar" will need to be raised.

I would also lengthen the wheelbase to make room for at least a v6 if not a v8 behind the cockpit.

I would guess that the whole rear end would need to be "vented" to allow hot air to pass thru the engine compartment.

Plus something other in design to meet requirements for a proper windscreen to be street legal. A tube chassis could work for the body to hang on. A Porsche 901 or 915 transaxle would be the least expensive way to go for the rear drive. Or you could adapt a Corvette transaxle to do the job.

Other choice would be to use a whole front wheel drive motor and trans located transversely. This would help keep the wheel base shorter.

How about an EcoBoost V6 from a Taurus or Ford police car? 365 HP in a relatively compact package, all bolted to a subframe - though too wide for a Mustang I unless the body was widened.
