Well it was a beautiful autumn day here in Upstate New York. I was initiating a right turn on to state route 5 along the Mohawk river when I noticed a police vehicle on an adjacent street. As I was accelerating up to 55 don’t I see the dreaded flashing lights in my rear view mirror. I pull over to the right shoulder and shut the car off. I start questioning myself. Did I make an unauthorized right on red? Was I going faster than 55?
Turns out the police officer was just bored and wanted to see my car! Phew! He paid me some compliments and we had a good laugh. A good day.:D

Last weekend, on a beautiful fall afternoon, I took the wifes Honda Civic to one of those quick lube joints for its routine oil change. As I drove up I wondered if the place was even open as there were no cars or people in sight. Sure enough, after I waited 30 seconds or so at the door, it opened and I was waved in. The tech commented on how quiet it was that day, so I responded by saying he had plenty of time to do his own car...he then pointed to his 70 chevelle on the other side of the parking area, and we talked cars for a bit, and then I asked if I could bring my Cobra by for an oil change before he closed up shop. He said no, it was getting too close to closing time, and by the way, what year mustang is it ? I said no dude, its a Shelby Cobra, not a mustang cobra...
He thought about it for a moment, a light clicked on in his head, and he said "man, I have never seen one up close, so if you bring it right over, I'll do it off the books, you know, no charge !! "We really aren't allowed to do those custom cars anyway, so I never get to do anything cool".
So I brought the Cobra over and got 7 qts and a filter for free! And he combed over the entire undercarriage for leaks and loose bolts, and wiped the oil pan and bell housing clean. He then came out of the pit, stared at the car for a bit, and said " I gotta get one of these some day, this thing is F-ing cool! ":D

Daughter was at Beverly Hills Porsche/Audi buying a S4? and traded in her car that was in my name. So I had to drive over to sign her tradein over. Took the Cobra, forget the new Porsches, salesmen and buyers (including Gary Shandling), circled the Cobra. Sorry boys, not for sale.

I think I did it on purpose.

Was at the "John Force's Racestation Holiday car Show" yesterday, and my Cobra was practically buried amongst the Roadrunner and '57 Chevrolet Hardtop. (Did you know the top of my Cobra's windshield sticks up about 6" above the top of the Roadrunner's door ledge where the driver puts his/her arm?)
There was this one young teenager girl who was taking pics of some of the cars, and she took a pic of my Cobra. I asked her if she wanted me to take her pic with her IN the driver's seat...she thought about it for about a second, then said "Heck yeah!"
I gave my usual "Sidepipes are VERY hot" speech, and she climbed in for the pic. When she got out, she had this WIDE smile, and a look of great pleasure from sitting in the Cobra. She kept looking back as she walked away!

I was driving down Goldenwest St. in Westminster, CA yesterday with my newly on the road SPF Brock Coupe. A Suburban pulls along side and a 12-ish year old boy sticks his head out the window and yells, "I love your car!" After thanking him, he says, "What is it?". I yell, "A Superformance Brock Coupe!" He says, "Cool". I pull into a restaurant parking lot a few minutes later for lunch. I park, shut her down, grab my stuff and start to get out. As soon as I turn around, there's the kid and his brother. The mom is in the Suburban and sheepishly says, "Can my kids ask you about your car?" I could tell she was embarrassed, but being a good mom. The kids were going nuts over the car and one of them asks, "What year is it?" I said, "Actually it's brand new, but it's a reproduction of a 1965 race car - the first American car to beat Ferrari for the world GT championship." The kid just looks stunned for a second and says, "Whoaaaaa, I thought it was from the future!"

Absolutely made my day!:D

Doug,

After all this time it is good to hear that you are enjoying the fruits of your
labor and waiting. Congratulations!

Thanks Flip! I definitely have a permanent smile on my face! Put 100 miles on it yesterday getting my brake/lamp inspection done, going to the DMV to get my plates (UNRL 65), going to the B.A.R. to get my SB100 smog exemption sticker (!), and then going by a friend's house to show it off. Drove it to Hillbank today to show Lance Stander (owner of SPF Distribution) that it IS really done. Had my four year old in the passenger seat (in his new Recaro booster seat) and he is smiling ear to ear too. He will be singing the praises of Peter Brock to his kids and to their kids!

Aloha!

Hi Doug! great looking Coupe!! I saw your note on another thread about going to Donut Derelicts some Saturday morning.....it's a 5 AM leave time for me, to be at your house about 6 AM...(maybe 6:30 AM!)...we just need to agree on the particular Saturday morning, as I am always ready for a trip!

CoupedUp 12-11-2006 09:26 PM

Sounds good Edley! I'll check with the boss when she gets back from her business trip on Thursday and we'll see about this Saturday or next... I'll PM you once I know for sure. I may have to bring my four year old co-pilot though - He begged me to drive him to school this morning in "the race car." On the way home tonight he said, "Daddy, this race car is the best thing that's ever happened to me in my whole life." I don't think I'm allowed to drive it without him now!

I was returning from a Show & Shine this summer. Driving back on the highway, I spotted a Police van slowing coming up along side of me. I'm thinking, "This can't be good." I look over and the officer in the passengers seat, is smiling and giving me a big thumbs up!:) Pretty cool!:D

Yesterday, tailed by an UNMARKED patrol car....hits the lights, and I pull over. I meet the officer at the rear of the car, as he asks me if it's an Austin-Healy?! DOH!!

PS. Didn't get a ticket.

PPS. I should have. :)

While trailering (not even driving) CCX33344 from Florida to Michigan last weekend had numerous conversations with total strangers and thumbs up along the way....
My favorite was the cute little 10 year old girls in Kentucky.....

My neighbor ten houses down stopped by as I was unloading the trailer to tell me had heard me start it. Wanted to know when he could have a ride since it was his all time favorite ride....

I never got this kind of attention in years of owning Vettes....

Today, as I was driving through Augusta, Georgia, I stopped at a light and a guy in a pickup truck next to me started dialing someone on his cellphone and then hung the cellphone out the window, apparently to capture the sounds of music of the BB..Later, I rolled into a Mercedes dealership to meet a friend and most everyone came out to see the Cobra. "We heard you coming a mile away". Happy New Year.

What did you get bfor Christmas?

When asked for my Christmas list, I gave my wife a print out from C.W.I. for their finned aluminum Jag rear end cover polished . with billet breather and bolts. I have the cover and it looks great. Now if I could get them to answer their phone. Any idea what size the bolts ( I count 10) that hold the Jag (Dana 44) rear end cover on are?
