In Illinois, upon receipt of the proper documentation (MSO, receipts for major components, two photos, license and title application and tax form, and checks for the 6.5% sales tax and title and registration fees), someone from the Motor Vehicle Department calls to make an appointment with the owner to send an inspector to the car's location. Following a successful inspection, the inspector affixes an Illinois VIN # tag to the frame. The plates and registration arrive in the mail shortly thereafter.
