I've narrowed down my requests to:

BAD ASP
1BADASP
ABADASP
67COBRA
SSSSSSS
UNREAL (perhaps it will prevent the annoying question of "Is it real?" one less time in the future)

-any comments appreciated, I'm putting the request in next week.

I had a plate all picked out but my wife said the reference was just a bit much.

The plate?

HABU

Ok... any guesses?

A habu is a poisonous snake found in southeast Asia (Japan, Phillipines, Taiwan, southeast China).

It is a pit viper, more closely related to the adder than to any species of North American snake. The actual "habu" (Trimeresurus flavoviridis) is relatively small, not usually getting longer than 5 feet. They are not typically aggressive but will bite if provoked. They are not as dangerous as cobras or mambas, but are more dangerous than the North American rattlesnake and much more dangerous than copperheads or water moccasins. There are almost a dozen species of habu; the variety native to Okinawa (Trimeresurus okinavensis) is supposedly greenish or greenish-yellow; however, all habus are extremely rare in North America (less than a dozen specimens in all zoos combined) and photographs are very hard to come by.

-GEE ya think this would be a bit too much?

cool license plates

i just got my confirmation on prestige plate "cobra 67" from the d.m.v. now i gotta wait two months for the inmates at the state pen to hammer out my tags. wish they'd hurry up! summers wastin away! i guess the rest of you guys are way more creative since there's competition for every cool tag number. not much competition out here in cowboy land! we can get just about anything except"shelby" and "67 cobra"! hey, did anyone hear about our first "closed highway" road race? out in western nebraska they closed off a county road for 26 miles and ortganized a high speed road race! featured car in omaha world herald newspaper was a cobra! not alot of entries, but it looked like a ton of fun! i had to work and couldn't go out, but would like to enter next year!

petek 09-07-2001 08:29 AM

Ok Frank, you got it.

So what the heck would a Habu have to do with a Cobra ... other than the Habu is in the same snake family?

surf on out to: http://www.habu.org/what-is-habu.html

Nice to have the connection between the Cobra and the SR71 (through Habu) and since I was born in Japan (military brat), I figured HABU would make a nice plate for my Cobra.

But like my wife noted, the reference is too obscure to use for a plate. I'm going to try to go with GUMBAL.

Re HABU

Piece of cake !

The HABU is a black (and extremely) poisionous snake found on the island of Okinawa. When the first detachment of Lockheed SR-71 reconaissance aircraft was stationed at Kadena airbase in Okinawa back in the 50's, the natives nicknamed this black, futuristic aircraft the HABU and the squadron adopted the name and snake for their squadron patch. While the SR - 71 was eventually taken out of service, its performance remains unmatched today.

Certainly not the history and prestigious background as the "Habu", but none the less, we felt pretty sure "it" wouldn't be taken by someone else! :)

Just got my confirm from the NJDMV, my plate will read:

67COBRA

I can't believe nobody else had this. A little good news after hearing nothing but bad these past few days.

smithers_0990 09-20-2001 02:14 PM

I was thinking of KNG SNK (king snake)

just my .02

crillyiv 09-23-2001 12:03 PM

I got the same plate I had on my Harley years ago.

FUHV 2AX

On the Harley and now the Cobra the frame reads:
FUHV 2AX Why, You Won't Understand The Answer.

I am thinking about changing it to: FSTR DDY (Faster Daddy!)
It is what my kids are always telling me. God I love 'em. And yes they have all seen the high side of 100mph.
