Thanks for all the info, both good and bad.

I am going to go to my local SPF dealer, Hillbank Motorcars in Irvine, this weekend and take a drive in one.

I got to crawl all over a BDR at the Knotts show and want to compare it to the SPF (which had a display 50 feet away but I was so into crawling all over the BDR's that I failed to compare to their cars).

As an aside, if I end up with a SPF, can I then thumb my nose at the FFR cars?

Just kidding FFR owners (of which I am one).

Thumb your nose, yes -- guffaw, no. To do that you have to move up to a Kirkham or an ERA....

Both of those are out of my price range.

A polished Kirkham would occupy my living room as a permanent fixture.

Would never have the guts to drive it and maybe get a bug spot on it.

On a sunny day the FFR guys can't see you thumbing your nose from inside a fully polished Kirkham anyway -- thus the need for the hearty guffaw.

With that CSX4000 recently selling for $40K +/- on eBay, why not buy a CSX and thumb your nose at everyone.

But you have to explain to people that you settled for the poorest quality in exchange for an authentic name....

Ruh Roh.

At $40K +/- for a roller, isn't a CSX a viable option?

Tsk, tsk. There is no substitute for first hand experience when making bold statements on a specific issue. I have a totally different first hand experience with CSX cars than what you are passing on from others who you may not personally know. You mean to say you've actually wrenched on a CSX and found it to be the poorest quality over something else that you personally worked on? Or just hearsay?

So atypical of you.

Actually, it's usually the FFR crowd that gets the brunt of your "attacks."

The first CSX I saw had to have most of the wiring and all of the fuel and brake lines rerouted because Las Vegas routed them in such a way as to make them susceptible to severe damage under normal driving conditions. The second one I saw Las Vegas put the wrong gas tank in, even the filler neck was in the wrong place (3-4 inches off). They had to have known about the mistake but shipped them anyway. The owners were both left to fix them themselves. The one with the fuel tank screw up found out when he ran the tank dry and was only able to put 15 gallons back in.

Turned me off to them!

I have seen the newer ones built in SA next to one of the older ones. The SA built car was far superior in build quality. One of the places that has done some work on my car was a Shelby dealer when they were being built in Mexico, and they said they had to rebuild some of the cars because the poor condition they were recieved in.

Some would agree, except for the guy that sold his SPF to buy a CSX and was disappointed in the quality of the CSX.

Time to leave the thread again before the full scale turf wars begin.

I would have to give very serious consideration to their cars. I should also add that the "dealer" who I bought from is no longer in business and I suspect that Lance is doing everything practical to improve the quality of the product and the dealerships. I hear nothing but good things about Gear Six in Boise (Wayne) and Hillbank and others. BUT I will say again, if I was in the market, I would buy a used sorted car. It was my intention to get a SPF GT40 this spring, but largely because of my problems I will likely only consider a Ford GT....a production car with a dealer every 50 miles...Just my 2 cents... ps... I get no satisfaction from thumming my nose at anyone, that doesn't validate my choices...

Jim - During your visit to Hillbank make sure you mention how much you admire Nelson Mandela. And when you leave it's customary to say "Jou ma se poes" which is Afrikaner for have a nice day.

Good luck!

I like a Cobra that's built in America. You don't see that posted much around here, but it does matter to me.

Pretty hard to do that though if your frame is built out of 2

Notice that I also used the special South African glittery glue to be genuine
