Bill you said it was a premiere motorsports cobra, I would love to know what was left enough of the car for you to identify it.

No. Because most all of us would NEVER put ourselves in the position for this to happen. When it comes to the Cobra or GT, etc. my rule is from commercial pilots I know, "Twelve hours bottle to throttle"

Sadly his passenger also made a poor decision to get in a vehicle (of any type or power level, could just as well been a Prius) with a driver they knew had been drinking.

Terrible what he did to his passenger! Car looks like an FFR to me. Isn't that rear coil spring perch on the frame? Total birdcage too.

Perhaps with regards to the alcohol, but I've seen in person and read about crashes just as bad as this one, and caused by behavior just as poor. I've said it before; there will come a day, soon, where we won't be able to insure these things at all.

It's an early FFR, not a Premier.

I wonder how he got insurance or if he was even covered at all. I could not find a carrier who would allow anyone under 25 to drive mine.

1 life lost, 1 life ruined and 2 families devastated. Tragic.

Wilson was old enough to drive a cobra but not mature enough to own up to his decisions, or actions. I also hope that his insurance company will not pay for the car. Wilson will know many money conncerns besides going hopefully into jail. May he never get a drivers lic. again!!!

But that's precisely the reason you buy insurance... to cover you when you make bad decisions and act irresponsibly. When you exercise good judgment, and act responsibly, you generally don't need your insurance (but sometimes you do ). And remember, the insurance proceeds will go to her next of kin -- do you really want to stiff them? What if she left small children?

The insurance covers the potential monetary loss (liability), no insurance for reckless homicide, I hope he serves 20 years but that probably won't happen.

According to his FB page it was his daddy's, not his. I'm fairly certain he wasn't covered.

My last policy excluded under 25 drivers; my current policy has no such exclusion. If he were my son, he would have been covered by not only the basic collector's policy, but the catastrophic umbrella coverage as well.

Probably by his lawyers advice. If that was his dad's car, his dad's policy and all the families assets are going to be fair game. I believe he's going to be charged with negligent homicide if found to be under the influence. And insurance doesn't pay for your defense in criminal proceedings.

Hope dad had sky high liability limits and a multi-million dollar liability umbrella! It will all be given to the girl's family if he is charged and convicted.

Two families either have or will lose everything. One has lost a loved one. The other will eventually lose a loved one and all their money.

Lesson for all of us. Cobras aren't for kids! As much as we all want to be the "cool dad" and believe "our kid would never do that", we need to be responsible for these guided missiles.
MOTORHEAD and Mother like this.

I wish no harm for the young lady's family. I wish that Wilson has an extreme difficulty in obtaining insurance and a drivers authorization for a very long time.

The trend for fatal DUIs, over the last decade, is a very rough 10 years per victim. The fact that she was in the car with him throws a wildcard in to the mix. For instance "we were just having fun and then she reached over and yanked the wheel -- that's why it flipped."

Oh goodness me. I sure hope he would not make that kind of a statement after trying to bribe the Officer.
