"Don't those "non Cobras" fit the title JAFM?

True Dat, but I gotta say, those two are very nice JAFMs.

Bob, et al, Adriana and I just returned from Morenci. The trip between Gonzales Pass west of Superior and Top Of the World was terrible. The speed limit is 25 or 35 MPH all through there and the road looks as if it's been resurfaced with a hand ax. If you are anticipating a drive through Salt River Canyon, I reccomend you either change your mind or take the long route out the east side of Globe and along the river on Rt. 77. I would not drive this road in a Cobra.

Thanks Dan. I don't see any way around it and stay within a day drive on Saturday. Your bad road measures about 17 miles vs 65 mile detour. It'll be early in the morning. We certainly can return via Bee Line or through Camp Verde on Sunday. Deciding on Saturday night.

Only about an hour further to go via the river.. it's about 80 miles from Superior to Winkleman to Apache Gold over pretty good road vs. 46miles about 23 of which will beat you to death.

You've got me Danr, I don't know which way you are meaning to direct us. "Via the river?"

From Wickleman to Apache Gold, hwy 77 runs along the river for part of the way. I think it's the San Pedro River.

To avoid the construction we would have to take the Florence junction to Florence then to Kearny then Winkleman then to Globe. 107 miles instead of 38 miles direct. Don't see the plus side. State still has almost a month to improve the condition.

I looked on the ADOT website for information, but they don't give completion dates as far as I can tell.

Just took a spin out to Superior this morning didn't have much rough road, although it was down to single lanes, each way for a few miles around the arboretum. I'll probably go down through the Salt River Valley, to Globe, on to Winkleman, then Superior and then the valley, since I live in East Bumbscrew, makes sense for me.

U R gonna love it, or hate it. 119 miles, 460 turns, many 15-20 MPH, most in 2nd gear. The pavement is good but the mountain side is pretty unforgiving, so I'm told.
dave from mesa likes this.

Here's a time lapse video of the southbound trail from south of Hannigan Meadows toward Clifton, about 70 miles. We drive north but you newbees will get the idea. Fortunately, we have not driven on wet roads through the turns yet.

Default West Side Starting Place Change

For the west siders (Bruce, Mike & me) we are changing the Saturday morning start place from the QT at Northern & the 101 to Dr Bruce Nelson's Dental office at 1776 E Glendale, just west of route 51. Still at 6:30am. This will make the first step shorter and allow others to join us like Scot and Keith if they want to. AZ Cobra Mike & Car Nut are aware. In case Mike Foss is still joining us, I will post on Facebook also.
Dr Duc says it's OK but Mustangs must park separately.
