When the seat of your pants is brown the engine is making too much HP?

The idea of you putting your ears on the seat of your pants just doesn't seem right

No such thing as "too much horsepower"

If I ran a Ford motor I wouldnt have to worry about my pants turning brown
They dont make enough power

From your last comment it would not be your pants turning brown but the front of your shirt catching the dribble from your mouth!

Hey Paul, I downloaded the "Touchscan" software and it's the only one that I can get to work with my ELM 327, so thanks for the tip, unfortunately I had erased the error code that comes up intermittently when I removed the battery terminal, so I couldn't see if it recognised it or not, but it looks promising. It is a lot cheaper to purchase as well! $25 compared to $90 odd.

Good to hear Peter. Touchscan was one of the first I tried - there are literally dozens out there with varying degrees of functionality. Compatibility is the key though. I doubt many will read GMH's custom PIDs. Here's a few more:

Well after a few more days hard at it, the car is now on a permit and I enjoyed a proper test drive around the suburbs this afternoon. It doesn't rev much past 3500rpm with the pea shooter exhaust tips and mufflers but I can already tell what a beast this thing is going to be. Grins all round.

A few more evenings and the wipers will be done, plus a couple of other small jobs then it's off for a wheel alignment and the IM240 test. With a bit of luck I'll be through engineering in a couple of weeks' time and then we wait for the VIN.

Pictures below showing new "Kenmer" intake and cold air box, plus current state of the car and you can see the hardtop in the background - patiently waiting for engineering to be completed.

Good stuff Paul. Get it done, get it through and then get in finished to your satisfaction.

Looking good Paul, Bernie must be kept pretty busy with all of us reaching that stage, good luck with the IM240 test, it's a nerve racking time whilst waiting in the canteen, for the verdict.

Thanks guys. I'm actually using a different engineer and have organised some dyno time on a gas analyser prior to the IM240. Keen to see how that goes.

Hi Paul,

Have you placed the airbox on the battery mount?

Cheers

Geoff, kind of. My battery is in the boot but the air box screws horizontally into the lower frame behind the radiator. It contains a VN Commodore panel filter and has a duct that draws air from beneath the radiator so intake temps should be nice and cool.

Interesting, look forward to seeing some photos when you're ready. The car is looking good.

Cheers

OK this no longer falls under "first drive" but I thought I'd share a new video with the exhaust functioning properly.

Please excuse the audio sync, courtesy of youtube.
