Default First drive

A big milestone yesterday - I finally sorted out the power steering issue, bolted the floor and seats in and made a few passes in the car. Silly grins and wobbly knees all round!

I know there's a bit more work to get it on the road but it's starting to feel like a real car for the first time. The LS7 clutch is very nice and the short take-up seemed to relax after a few gear changes. For those who PM'd about the clutch, I say go for it.

A big thanks to Marty Govert for your effort over the last few weeks and for use of the workshop and tools. Sure beats crawling around on my back in the garage at home. Also thanks to the regular gallahs down at Kenmer: Rob, Ross, Doug, Darren, Ben, Graeme... plenty of 'helpful' comments along the way.

Shelbyfest 2012 here we come!

Its a great feeling isnt it Sambo? driving it, grinning, hoping nothing goes bang, and the police dont come around all at same time.
Why did you take the doors off?
Got to be so cereful with those first drives. I can remember the drivers side floor carpet rolled up on me and jammed the accelerator. Not a good why to check the brakes at the same time turning the key off and not locking the steering.
Well done
Bruce

Thanks guys. Bruce, motorbikes don't have doors! But yes, you summed it up well - the senses are picking up everything, mind racing, did I double check the wheel nuts etc. It's all a bit of an unforgettable blur now, bring on the Easter long weekend!

Paul

Well done! Always great to hear another Cobra rolling down the test track. I reckon I just watched your 9 seconds of video a dozen times.

It's certainly a great feeling isn't it Paul? Two newly drivable Harrisons in Melbourne within a few weeks of each other, some kind of record? I've done a few K's on the permit now and I am still listening for "noises". Has your "Mil" light come on at all? Mine comes on occasionally, the Code reader says "clutch switch" I'm not sure why as I don't have one. How is the reverse lockout, if you remember I had a problem?

Hi Peter, I've only run the car about 5 mins in total, no MIL light except on start - as expected. But thank god for reminding me about the reverse lockout, we can't get reverse in my car despite measuring voltage at the plug when the car is on. What was the problem and the fix again - something to do with the tune?

Clutch switch I think is about allowing the engine to crank only when the clutch is in - I dont have one and cant remember if it is switched off in the tune, but dont get a mil on it.

Curious about the rev lockout as could never get mine working. Ended up putting a little rocker switch on it as a temp solution, but would like to get it sorted if I can.

Cheers
