Thats a bugga, but it appears you already know that. |

Oh Crap. When's the painter coming? |
|
nothing (well, not much) sh1ts me more than having to do re-work, but on the plus side the second time you always do it better. |

 You're importing a painter? |

Can you move it around by applying some heat? Tenrocca fixed up his bodywork with a heat gun and clamps. |

Seriously, I'm paying his airfare ($1800) and he gets a three week free holiday in Oz in the middle of a pommie winter. It's a win/win Quote:

The heat thing did nothing for me. I asked a boat builder about that and he said it doesn't work. Aren't the CRs a different type of resin? That may be why it works for some. |

Peter, I didn't think about his gear. If you need to borrow anything let me know. |

1 Attachment(s) Thanks Liam, I've got your number so I'll take up on that offer if needs be. I suggested he bring his gear as carry-on luggage but he said Customs may query why he had it if he was on holidays and might confiscate it for the duration of his stay. I think the issue of distortion arose because some of the pieces didn't have edge folds or strengthening ribs, I was going to add them later - my inexperience showing. This time I'll lay in the fibreglass rope to the outer edges of the pieces before I join their mating edges. With all the stress associated with this my wife told me at 11:00am that it's Valentine's Day and asked what I had planned. Women, they have no sense of priorities do they. 24 days and counting. |

Wow this has turned from a build thread to a countdown thread!!! Peter I didn't realise your just down the road (well a few kms down president ave) from me, after just scanning through your thread. I didn't catch though who you're using as your engineer??? Or if you're up to that stage yet? Good luck with the build and painter. |
|
When it was all just a dream (and not the present nightmare) I prepared a comprehensive 'Schedule of Proposed Modifications' which I discussed with three engineers before settling on one, and that was purely on the basis of fees. So I've had an engineer on-board all the time which has not only saved any arguments but provided some great advice on how to go about things, and a need to redo anything because it wouldn't be approved. This is a modified vehicle and not an ICV. I'm not going to name my engineer because whenever I've mentioned any engineer's name people make negative comments and say someone else is better. I've got nothing but praise for all engineers I've met - treat them professionally and they'll do the same. 23.5 days and counting down. |

1 Attachment(s) We ran into a huge problem with the preparation. For whatever reason this kit has no gelcoat (prototype?) and a spray with primer quickly revealed just how porous the fibreglass is. We laboriously hand filled the pores with extra primer. If anyone in the area (Sutherland Shire) is interested I am having car folks around for a cars and coffee at my place this Sunday (23rd March) between 09:00 and 11:00. Send my a PM for the address if you are interested. |

Peter you must have the patience of a saint! |
|
What a pain. If you have really bad spots, grab some dolphin glaze and try that. It's a 2pack skimming putty that is really fine and self levelling. Goes on primer and sands easy like plaster. Be careful not to use primer in large holes as it may shrink over the next 6 months and you will see it in the finish. I would use spot putty or dolphin glaze. |

Thanks for the invite Peter. I really enjoyed the morning. It was great to catch up with your mates and listen to their build/ restoration experiences. There were some really nice cars there too. I have attached a few pics of the morning as I know there would be people on this forum who are interested in how things are going in your garage. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...671_Small_.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...672_Small_.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...673_Small_.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...668_Small_.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...667_Small_.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...670_Small_.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...669_Small_.jpg |

5 Attachment(s) Zedn - Thanks for the suggestions. Baz - Thanks for posting the photos and for attending. It was a great turnout for such an impromptu gathering. We have been head-down and bum-up working on the front section since Sunday. |

Looking great. Looking forward to the finished pics. I can't believe you have built that in a single garage. I started out in a single with my cobra and it was tough. I struggle to keep my double tidy now. Intake on the motor looks good too. |

No Boos or Hisses from me either. I knew about the 250 GT before the Cobra. I'd be proud to own one ! |
