Your current project is drawing to a close Peter.

Time to go again? With your recent experience, this one would be a snap!

I'd be happy to look after your present baby while you get stuck in -- purely a helpful gesture so as to free up garage/workshop space for you, you understand. ;)

It has been a little while so just some updates. Nothing special, just fiddly stuff.

PeterAllen 05-05-2016 04:07 AM

Yes a UVP, so I drove to Cape Solander ... three times!

Lets all remember that dear ol' Shelby created the Cobra & Tiger by combining different cars that were not related! He was the "ultimate" kit car builder from the '60s! And the same could be said of Dr Porsche, he was no more than a "hot rodder" himself.

A couple of yrs ago I was on a vacation and spent a week with one of the original Marketing Dept folks from Shelby in the '60s. He said Shelby was really all about selling cars to support his car habit (as in addiction) in those days. He longed to still be able to race and this was as close as he could get!

The fun and enjoyment is about how each of us is creative- like an artist- and have some pride in what we create!

Unfortunately still not rego-ed, but getting close.

A couple of fiddly things which may interest Cobra builders.

The fit of the one-piece front section precluded mounting the windscreen washer nozzles in the cowl area so I routed them up behind the wiper arm pivots. I ended up by using spray nozzles from garden watering systems. I had to experiment with a few, i.e. shape the deflector with a Stanley blade to get the right spray pattern, but it worked out okay.

After the few short test runs I was surprised just how much crud was thrown up by the front wheels and trapped in the rear of the front guards. I'd roughed out some splash guards earlier (edit - from 1.0 mm sheet steel) but they became 'gunna' jobs, so I've now finished them off and fitted them.

Nice work.

I want to make some infill panels like them for in the rear guards of the Cobra. I reckon they really tidy things up. I also have my charcoal canister in the wheel arch and the fuel filler pipe that I'd like to protect from dirt and stones.

Cheers

MikeFromPerth 09-26-2016 11:24 PM

nice work they fit up a treat. what did you make those splash guards out of?

Modena 09-27-2016 03:10 AM

Peter are you bringing the GTO to the Nationals?

PeterAllen 09-27-2016 05:35 AM

I was hoping to make it to 'Speed off the Street' on Thursday but the forecast is for rain and I haven't weatherproofed the cabin (seals, etc.) as yet. Next year for sure.
