Christmas update:
HGT Gearbox Mk3 has been installed. New shorter rebated GB shift handle installed with new billet shift clevis. Its now only a blip. Better than the Hollinger! Much shorter throw. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=16063 Top fitted to body and stripe alignment done ready for paint. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=16064 Door glassed with inner support off side impact for Dukes of Hazard style entry/exit. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=16062 All bottom end parts including brand new Iron Eagle Dart Block , big end crank etc ordered and arrive at builders this week. (Anyone looking for a stout block and bits to build a nice race engine my old parts will be for sale. 302 journal sizes. 4 bolts mains etc.) Looking at 427 ish. Just got to finish the math. Cars loaded and waiting quietly for Peter B to be ready so as I can take to him to finish the cage then it's back to have the cage and roof painted. Then its engine assembly and install time, dyno and pushing to make 1st rd A series in March. Tick tock! (And my Daytona left me marooned on the Bruce Hwy on Sunday so it needs some attention now too. Me think fuel pumps on its way out!) |
hey Spook,
You didnt think about the Mercury Racing quad cam LS 427 as a replacement donk..? 1000bhp out of the box. Have two fuel pumps on my Coupe with a 2L swirl pot, to get me to limp home at least. Look forward to the next update.. :) Cheers Chris |

http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=16380 http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=16378 http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=16379 Still have to make some naca scoops out of acrylic (my first lesson in heating and shaping acrylic will be fun) and I have to come up with a opening door solution for the driver as window entry is horrible at best. Engine I hope to have back in 3 weeks. Had issues with pistons and crank supply etc etc. The roll bar padding is now done (only temp in pics) and Ive added some more safety net/s plus some carbon side mirrors for better driver awareness etc. Adjusted the seat pitch too so make it more comfy. Progress is good and its coming together. Spookypt |
Nice progress! Thanks for sharing with the group.

Attachment 29957 Naca duct scoop proto first attempt. They'll be black once I get the process sorted. |
That's not a NACA duct. A small detail, but calling it a NACA duct instead of a scoop is wrong.

Door hinge

Having decided that crawling through a window the size of a milk crate unfeasable, I've been searching everywhere for a suitable door hinge. Not exactly an off the shelf item at Mitre 10!
Enter ICCars. Huge thanks to Will for assisting me. Hinges in stock and in the mail after a 5 min phone call. And his hinges are billet loveliness! Attachment 29971 |
I had to chuckle at a text conversation I had with Towmaster the other day about my engine. Ash said, are you going over the top "again" in which I responded with yeah, I'm trying to buy reliability! Like most building or rebuilding cars you learn as you go and Ive enjoyed the journey and the lessons learned along the way.
Having said that, with reliability will come seat time and that can only make me more consistent and fast too. Im no Towy, Mads or John W or Fangio and I have relative expectations on what I can achieve, but I will enjoy trying. I have my doubts I'll be as quick as many but if I can get this thing reliable, as was my goal from the outset of this thread, there is no reason I cant be competitive and finally have FUN. Small steps climb the mountain they say. |
naca duct scoop vent wind catcher wing outlet fart catcher thingy's done.
