Gel coat is tops

Have you considered painting some stripes on. I did that. Check the old photos out on my gallery.
I drove it for six months like this. Ran up nearly 16,000k in that time. I also placed the replica race stickers on the guards/fenders.
They are available from 'Finishline' on this forum.
Just a thought. I think Gel Coat looks tuff. Have a neighbour here who has a flat black '34 coupe that he runs around in. Was Gel coat black and he rubbed it down and drives it now.
