Apart from the (minor?) environmental benefits, is there a good reason to run cats in side pipes? The way I look at it, if your going to run not so legal side pipes, why then worry about putting cats in as well? Is it true cats dont work after a few years anyway?

I reckon they look pretty good plums, plus we dont want Uncle Mike getting distracted!

Of the few sets I've built with cats I don't think I've had any change out of $1K for materials on any of them.

I heard the fine for not having cats was substantial i.e. about $12,000. Where as if you are too noisy it's a mater of fix it and get it retested.

These modern cats are pretty free flowing and don't hurt performace too much so I'll do my small bit for the environment and hopefully have a better chance of talking my way out of an infingement notice.

Believe it or not, they actually help in noise muffling. For their length they reduce more noise than an equivalent length of glass wrapped 2.5" perf.
They help in reaching a reasonable noise level, which is hard to do in side pipes.
