Hey Craig & Geoff

Hope to get up there on Sunday.......

Geoff, I spoke to Dru after Warwick told me the engine that was slated for your car is for sale, I might check it out next week.......I'm curious as to why you're going with a GM donk?

I should start a new link on Ford v's GM v's Lexus
Probably only make the decision harder!

Choose Ford if you want to have a Ford. You can do a very cheap & simple Mustang/T5(or Aussie windsor) install.

Choose GM if you want better bang for buck.

Choose Lexus if you want the best bang for buck.

We have Ozvenom(Scott) here in Brisbane that is the master when it comes to Lexus. He has fitted quite a few to Harrison Cobra's, including the one my brother races. That certainly makes the Lexus fitment a lot more tempting. I can certainly recommend one of his bolt-in Lexus engine kits with all the changes to bolt the engine in, including modified wiring loom etc.

Also keep in mind it's very simple on the Lexus to get single/twin turbo upgrades approved here in QLD after rego. Which is what we did thanks to Ozvenom. Now that's the path to serious mumbo. The other engines start to have too many cubes for forced induction approval.

This is only my take on things.

There is no right or wrong decision, it all comes down to personal preference.

Greg

At the risk of inciting a riot I reckon the GM engine to be a better engineered product. I agree that a Ford engine would be preferable, based on sentiment, in a Cobra but a Gen IV beats any current Ford option on price, engineering and ease of fitment. Whether a Gen IV has the same 'soul' could be debated.

I would never criticize anyones choice but this is my preference.

Also I think that time runs out at the end of the year for a 302 and I can't guarantee that I can meet that deadline.

My 2 cents worth

Cheers

The GM is a strong option as you can see be it's popularity here.

Official statement from QLD transport at the moment is that ADR 37/01 emissions will be indefinite. So no official plans YET to move on. They only announced the move to stay with 37/01 for ICVs at the start of the year, so I personally don't expect any movement forward for quite a while. So far only NSW & VIC states have moved on from the 37/01 emissins level for ICVs.

So Ford 302w & Lexus are viable options up here.

I just spoke to the engineer I'll be using, Ray Cross, and he tell me any post '90 US engine or '99 onwards Aussie is OK. I didn't ask him about the 302 becoming unuseable.

The only engine that I have to rule out is a Boss as it won't fit in the chassis that Harrison built 4 years ago.

I must admit Craig that I saw the Venom beast on the track last Sunday and it mumbo's alright. I was weird standing trackside taking pics as it rocketed past......all you could here was the whistle of the turbo then the wastegate open as it hit full boost at the end of the straight. Meanwhile my eardrums were being blown out by that gelcoated Harrison with no mufflers
Phil Aishs Harro was also there fitted with a Lexus.......maybe its just the muffler system but generally they don't seem to have the V8 throb of a GM or Ford

They have a different note.

Paul's old twin turbo Lexus Harrison had basically just straight through side pipes. The turbo's keep the Lexus to a very acceptable noise level. But the noise from it was amazing, it sounded exactly like a big block. No kidding. It was the biggest, baddest exhaust note I have heard. Quite amazing. That Harrison was also built by OzVenom(Scott).

So they can sound good...very, very good actually.

That black quiet single turbo Harrison is the one I built together with my brother. It's quick alright, fastest car on the track that day by far. It's quiet due to the turbo and the full underbody system.

Yeah, I guessed that the turbo would quieten it down, I'll give Scott a call soon and have a chat about his setups.

Cheers

Yeah, good idea. Do you homework, look at the different options and see what fits best for you. Ray Cross is also certainly happy with Scott's work.

Enjoy the ride.
