Back in the "old days", when I built my car (early '80s), you couldn't find a decent aluminum head for a Ford engine that you could touch for $1,000. I went with a 350 and It's worked well for 17 years. I sometime wish I had gotten the destroked 400, though. At the time, I was advised that the 400 wasn't very reliable, especially if it happened to overheat at all. The 350 has been a great engine for over a 100K miles. I did a minor rebuild a couple of years ago and now the balance is perfect with no vibration. That's important when you have solid motor mounts. Sometimes, I get the itch for more power, though. I keep telling myself, when someone beats me, I'll build a bigger engine. Hasn't happened yet!

I put solid mounts in mine also. I have a warmed up, OK, really warm 358 sbc that is going in mine. Some of the locals that have visited my shop say its so nasty fast. The only problem is that the engine is still sitting on the stand and the body is off. They think that all the pretty stuff on the thing makes it faster, If that's the way it works I want lots of polished aluminum, cheaper than internal stuff! The motor dyno'd @ 505 hp @ the flywheel. Hope it works as well on the street, pretty sure it will! Here's to having fun with our small block Cobra's!!!

I went with semi-solid motor and tranny mounts on my Ls.
Finally got some pics posted, including some of the engine mounts.
I just ended up with 2inch square tubing welded foreward of the factory ford flat mounts. They are cut at a 45 degree angle toward the block and I welded a little web on top of them to fit into the groove of the engine isolator. Inserted cross-bolt to hold everything in place. It seems to be working very well during my 1100 mile debug, fun drive summer. The car is coming apart again for body work and paint this winter. I still think I should have used zippers instead of bolts to hold everything together 'til the paint is dry.
