Bill,

You are moving right along! It is going to be a beautiful car.

99.9% complete. Took her for her first drive but lost the right front wheel going about 2 mph in my neighborhood. Wheel stayed in the wheel well. No damage. Walked back home and got my floor jack, wire cutters, lead hammer, and more safety wire. Got it all back together and drove slowly home. Tomorrow will recheck all the wheels to ensure they are engaged properly with the pins. Sure looks purdy though

Looks awesome Bill!

Describe more about the wheel issue. The pin drive adapter came loose or the spinner came loose? When I had mine it was tighten to the rear of the car... passenger side is "lefty tighty"... "righty tighty" for the driver side - and I beat them HARD until they stopped moving. "Whale on them". I hit them like I'm beating on a knuckle to pop a stubborn ball joint loose... HARD. Maybe that's exactly what you did but saying it anyway... don't want you getting hurt.

Bill,

I always tighten the spinners by hand with the tires off the ground until they are snug. Then take the hammer and hit the spinners until they no longer move. Then I let the car down and put weight on the tires and give it another go with the hammer until you get a couple of successive blows where there is a dull thud. Good luck

Jmimac351-

The spanner came off and was dangling causing the clunking sound. Then the car just sank on the right side. The wheel was off but still in the well with the spanner dangling from the safety wire. I can only assume I didn’t tighten the spanner or the wheel was not properly engaged. I was tired last night when I put the wheels on and may have overlooked something.

The night is cool so had a chance to work on the car. Installed the shoulder harness roll bar mount and roll bar bezels. Down to three items to do and then she’s finished. They are

Fabricate a new closure panel for the cockpit bulkhead (lost the original)
Wire the door number lights
Redo the safety wire on the wheels and check engagement

Bill, are the door race lights Massey Ferguson dash lights?

You'll need a holiday after the last few weeks ;)

Cheers!

No. They’re early Ford license plate lights

I know the feeling. But measure three times and drill once. I say go for it!

Got the passenger side door number light wired up. Brutal. I need to be about 60# lighter and 40 years younger

As an investment you are doing fine. We all gain weight and get more rigid...

Car is fantastic!
Lets see a video running?

Bill D 08-25-2021 10:48 AM

Just finished making sure the wheels were properly engaged and sitting flush with the hubs. Then Re-safety wired all four wheels. Checked and double checked. Then checked again. Im ready for another try around the neighborhood

1985 CCX 08-25-2021 11:02 AM

Go slow!

Bill D 08-25-2021 02:59 PM

Checked all the wheels today to make sure the pins were engaged and the wheels flush against the hubs. Then Re-safety wired them. Took a deep breath, jumped into the seat, and fired her up. Took a nice drive through the neighborhood. Lots of waves from everyone. Parked her in the garage and checked for loose spinners. None!!

Decided to check the fuel to verify the gauge is accurate. That’s when I ran into a gremlin.

The fuel tank filler cap sits too low to remove. I did get it off but with a lot of work by removing the LeMans filler.

https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/7d/82/yQuxc2sx_t.jpeg

My solution is to epoxy a grab handle to make it easier to remove the gas cap with the LeMans filler installed.

Will see if this works before going with Plan B

Installed the roll bar shoulder harness mount, modified the shoulder harness from bolt-in to clip-in, and installed them.
