Jim,
I don't have a harmonic balancer. I was going to run to a scrapyard, ebay or craifgslist and see what I cold pick up cheaply. Anyone out there have any idea if there is a stock type balancer that works OK? As far as the alternator, the car is wired for an original type external regulator alternator.

Who is doing the engine?
I have and will give a complete FE ( 360 ) to a machine shop.
It is almost complete. But for all intensive purposes, it could easily be punched to 406 - 428 slugs. The heads are truck smog style, but I can toss in a set of 6040s.
Here is the problem, Either it is going to have to be some place close to Detroit, OR there is going to have to be an effort to get it shipped.

He has a 390 in short block form and the majority of the top end parts, but needs different heads (I think he said the the ones he has have the raised exhaust ports) and needs someone to build it.

In what condition is the engine/parts? Is it just ready to assemble or does it need machine work, more parts, etc?
I would donate assembly labor if someone wants to get the parts to me and have it freighted back.

Thanks, Brent. The short block is assembled, all I need to do is slide the cam in and chain, bolt the heads on, and finish it up. I've done a few engines in the past but never an FE. I may have some questions as I bolt it together. If I can call you as I progress with a question or two that would be great. Between you, assuming you don't mind a phone call or two, and Rick Lake, I should be great in the tech support network area!
I'm going to send you a PM, as I have questions about the heads that I have for the engine. They're D2TE-AA's and I'm told the exhaust port won't work with headers. Thanks.

Wow, that's an amazing offer, thanks so much. I think I'm ok in the engine department, but I may need to replace the heads that I have for it. What are 6040's? I'm not all that familiar with the FE head numbers. I have D2TE-AA heads. I am told that the exhaust port in these heads is in a different location in reference to the header mounting bolts, which results in an inability to seal with the thin sealing ring on the headers. If this is true then I will need heads, I suppose. Thanks again for the kind and generous offer!

Thanks, Bill. Right now the car is at Nick's place in NH. Rick Lake has generously offered to go up to NH and take it to his place somewhere around the first weekend in October, keep it at his place for a weekend or so, then drive it to Summit Racing in Ohio. At Summit's parking lot, Ed "DV" Combs is going to come down to transfer the car to his trailer and take it up to his place. I'm going to have to assemble the engine myself, as there's no real budget to hire someone. However, that will likely have to be done at Ed's place, because I can't get to Nicks prior, and Rick won't have it long enough. I've done some small block Chevy's in my youth, so I know my way around an engine a bit, but I've never done an FE and Ed is not an FE specialist either. I'm thinking that if I could get to Rick's place while the car was there for the weekend I could screw the engine together over there and lean on Ricks expertise if I hit a hump in the road while assembling. However, that won't work because I'll likely be in treatment while the car is there. So, as I type this it looks like parts will need to be sent to Ed's place, and I'll have to call Rick if I have a assembly question. Wow, that's a long rambling explanation, huh?
I spoke with Ed last night, he says he has multiple projects going on, so he asks that any parts sent to his place be clearly labeled that they are for this project so they don't get lost in the shuffle. I'll get Ed's address and post it here. He thought he had included it in one of his communications to me but I don;t see it. I'll get it on here ASAP.
You guys are all incredible, thanks SO much!

Doug, I have a used stock D5 balancer that's in decent shape. It's the same size and whatnot as the earlier C8 version. I'll send it along with the other stuff.

I have just given our own Mr FABULOUS (Mrmustang) a complete address & phone number to send Doug's parts to! I'd post it again but don't want to confuse things.
Building an FE assembly for DOUG's car scares the Ell out of me. Never did an FE except when I was a kid... so long, long ago!
I have the tools, minus a good Mic, stand, an overhead lift soooo who in Michigan is an FE expert? Free room and board if it is a long drive or takes a day or two!

Hi Doug,
I have a quick fuel carb, FFR black painted side pipes, steel braided oil cooler lines and AN- fittings. Wilwood Masters and clutch masters, flex lines from masters to slave. Just tell me what you can use and I'll drop them at the house.

Bob,
Wow! As if you didn't do enough by stopping by to help a total stranger put the body on the car, now you're donating parts! Guys, I asked for some local guys to stop by one Saturday mornong to help me lift the body onto the car so that Nick could take it. I'd never met Bob before, but he drove 40 minutes early one Saturday morning to help a guy he never met. One other local guy dropped in, and with the help of a neighbor we had the body on the frame rails in minutes flat. Bob, thanks so much for that and for offering up all these great parts. I can't use the sidepipes but I can probably use the rest. I'm not sure what size my clutch master needs to be, but I know I need a .625" remote reservoir front master and a 3/4" remote reservoir rear master. If that's what you've got than that would be great. The lines, carb, etc would be wonderful too! I can't thank you enough for the perevious help and for this as well. You've been wonderful to me, thanks so much.
Doug
