As some of you know I bought BDR 602 back in Feb. - and before shipping to me, I had Suncoast Cobra change some parts.
I will ask Jerry what parts he's got left that belongs to me, but for sure I know that the entire polished Edelbrook and Holly 950 race carb. +++ -all complete and "almost brand new" are waiting to be sold... ( changed to EFI)
Jerry have informed me that the market value should be at least $ 750.
I offer to put the entire value in the Pot - If sold the cash should help paying for shipping some of the parts Doug needs...

Henrik,
That's so generous of you. You did hit on a key point. I am going to try to spend as little of the raised money as possible as I would love to see some remain for the next Cobra family member in a difficult position have a chance at the same help that you are all so generously extending to me. Thank you so very much for your generosity and kindness.

Just tried to send you a PM but your box is full.
You really don't have that much to do from your description. I hate to see someone spend the money to send an all iron FE down here and back for a top end assembly.
Let me think on this....I can either walk you step by step through the things you told me (if you feel like working on it), or maybe we can work something out on a flight up and back.

Sorry 'bout that, Brent. PM box is cleaned pot again. I saved the recent ones, but I don't need PM's from 2007, do I?

I just got a call from someone who was asking why Nick Acton (Mickmate) isn't completing the car, since it's up at his place already. Nick is and remains a wonderful friend of mine. However, he's a one man shop and the sole source of his family's income. When Ed stepped up with his absolutely incredible offer to complete the car, it became obvious that this was the only way to complete the car, as I could not at any time in the foreseeable future pay Nick what he so richly deserves for his time and his talent. Nick has been an invaluable friend and asset during these very difficult times, lending an ear on those nights when all you need is someone to listen to you talk. I greatly value his expertise and friendship. He is helping all that he can with this project, while simultaneously running his business. I'm sure he'll chime in on here, as other than me he knows more about this car than anyone and in some cases knows even more than I do what it needs. he's a great friend, and an incredible talent. I thank Nick for all he has done on my car, and for what he continues to do.
The offer that Ed "DV" made to finish the car is just incredibly wonderful and generous, and it's really the only way that this car can be completed. I spent an hour or so on the phone with him the other evening, and he is just a wonderful man. Ed, if you're reading this, Mrs. DV and you have a standing invite to come on down to Houston whenever the snow piles up in Michigan to escape the cold! I am so overwhelmed and grateful to him for his unbelievable offer, to Mrs. DV for tolerating my intrusion into her husbands well earned semi-retirement, and to all of you who have offered to donate parts, funds or moral support, all of which I am so grateful for. Thanks again, thanks a million for all that you are all doing.
I look forward to the day that this car moves under it's own power with me at the wheel for the first time. You all can't believe the boost this has given me at a time when I couldn't possible have needed it more. A million thank you's to all of you. What an incredible group you are, I am proud and humbled to be amongst you.

Any estimate on how much money completion will take? How close are we?

I'm building an Exact Carbon Fiber Cobra right now and it has a brand new Holley Red Electric fuel pump that came on it if you are interested in that vs a manual pump on the motor. I'm installing a much bigger fuel pump for my 496 FE so willing to donate the pump if you want it?
I just purchased an expansion tank from Nick Action along with some other goodies and I sent him a tank that was for a 460 I had from years ago. He said the tank is in super shape and could be modified for an FE. Be willing to donate that tank also but you would need to get with Nick to see the price to modify it. Just let me know if interested and where to ship the pump. I may have some nice KN oil breathers also to throw in if you think you could use those. Just let me know what if anything you want and where to ship the items.......

Hi, Gary,
The fuel pump would probably work great. I'll get with Nick on the tank and see what it would take to swap it over to FE. That's a terrifically kind offer to make, thank you so much. I should have an address to send it to very soon. I'm not sure about he breathers yet, I don't know what kind of valve cvers I'll end up with. Thanks!

Larry,
Looks like right now the big thing will be a set of heads. Dave (trularin) has a good set of bare heads, and Russ (SoTexButler) has a great set of springs. The cost will be in the rest of the parts to make the heads complete, and of course the labor for the valve job. Between the valves, seals, retainers, keepers and labor, I imagine that'll be quite costly. Anyone have an intelligent guess on what the cost to complete the heads will be? I've never done it before. Thanks!

Doug,
I'm sorry now, I didn't get your email, but I do see the M/C sizes.
I would say another 3/4 for the clutch.
So its 2, 3/4" and 1, 5/8 remote reservoir M/Cs
I uploaded a photo and dwg of m/c to my gallery (for some reason i can seem to link the image) can someone verify it is the correct config?
Do we know what length lines?
Jason

Jason,
As to the lines going from the reservoirs to the masters, I don't know how long they are. Can someone with a Kirkham or ERA or similar setup measure the size and length please?
Thanks so much!

Cylinder heads needed........perhaps........
Guys,
DCDoug sent me a PM and suggested that I post this, so here goes. It looks like the biggest outstanding item is a set of cylinder heads. Dave (trularin) has generously offered a set of heads that he has on hand that are bare and need to be built up. I am unsure what the costs are to purchase valves, keepers, retainers and seals, (Russ is sending a set of Comp springs). I'm also unsure of The labor costs as well. Brent Lykins has generously offered to put them together. The heads would have to be shipped from Detroit where Dave has them, to Brent (Louisville if I remember correctly) and then back to Ed's place. Brent has stated, and it makes sense, that it's impossible to estimate what the heads would cost to be built up, as with most of the original FE parts they're 40+ year old items and you never know what they'll need until you seee them.
Certainly this can be done. It would probably be easier if any of you know where a reasonably priced set of already built up heads could be located. They could be Ford heads, Edelbrock heads, whatever. They would need to fit a 390, and have the simple two bolt per exhaust port pattern. This may be easier and even cheaper than doing the whole building and shipping routine. Perhaps some of you have friends who are looking to sell a nice set of heads that will fit this 390? If you guys wouldn't mind beating the bushes a bit, that would be great. DCDoug is holding the donated cash, he could send it on it's way for the right heads if any are found. It's great to have Dave's set as a option as well. Guys, I keep saying thank you, but I don't know what else to say. I'm still amazed at all this, it's just incredible. Thank you all so much.
Doug
As an added thought, the D2TE-AA heads I have are in great shape. They are not fresh but have low miles on them after a rebuild. They have aftermarket retainers, and springs that I am told are aftermarket hi-po springs, I have no idea what they are. If they can be sold or traded toward a set of heads that could be used on this project, I guess that's an option as well. They won't work with Cobra headers, that's all that I know, but they're very good heads with a small and modern combustion chamber.

Panavia, thats a pretty cool offer. I don't know if it is going to be trunk mounted or engine compartment mounted.
Just a little change here:

Ed, you and Diane are going to LOVE Houston in February. It's not tropical, but the only white stuff to be found is the foam on the beer!

Wow, Steve - that's wonderful. What a tremendously generous offer, I can't thank you enough. The car is set up for the two small batteries behind the passenger seat, as the originals had. As for plugs, I don't know the type. Does anyone know what plugs a FE takes? Steve, I'm so grateful to you for your offer, thanks a million.

Just a cursory look through some boxes, I have a number of spares, some are on and some are not on the list.
- Tons of braided hose, AN 6, 8, 10. various red and blue AN fittings too.
- remote oil filter housing
- insulated brackets
- Moroso 2 gauge copper battery cable
- protective ribbed wire/hose covers
- MSD 6AL #6420 (used?)
- AC pedal covers
- HD eyelets for seat harnesses
- driveshaft safety hoop - Mustang
I've got a bunch of other stuff, not using it....barter system? trade items for cash for this project? Got a number of ARP bolts, stuff like that. Ed, if you can't use it here, maybe on something else, for all your effort on this project....you guys can have it all.
Doug, I certainly feel for you...this insidious disease has been in my family for years...a project like this...finishing your car, will definitely help you in maintaining a good outlook, which is half the battle.
God Bless,
John

Thanks so much, John. Most of that can certainly be used. As I said to Mac, anything not used, would you mind if it's held in reserve to try to make this help network perpetual? I would really like to try to help others who find themselves in my position. I have no doubt that I will pull myself out of this hole in life that I seem to have dropped into, and I sure would like to be able to help others when that happens. Is that OK with you? I think Ed's address has been posted on this thread. Thanks so much, John. I remember seeing pics of your CCX 289 car, what a beautiful machine. You do outstanding work! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your kindness and generosity. I hope all your family members came out the far end of this journey well and are leading happy productive lives. That's certainly my goal, and you and all the members of our Cobra family who are so generously contributing to the car and their supportive words are going a ling way, longer than most of you realize, toward making that happen. Thank you, John, and my eternal thanks to all of you. What an amazing group of people we have assembled here.
