If I keep listening to you Peter, ill eventually have the AC Cobra equivalent of a 4200lb Hellcat. With AC, electric lumbar seats, defroster, heated carbon fiber steering wheel, air ride suspension, pre and post mufflers, rabbit skin interior, navigation, Tesla park assist, and Fiji water radiator.
Or worse, have you paint your ERA "Desert Storm HumVee Camo Beige" like Patrick's car.

IMO, I'd forgo some of the other cool stuff and upgrade to the 428. There's no substitute for cubic inches and better resale value, if and when that ever happens. Or better yet, a center or even side oiler 427, if you could swing it.

Out of curiosity, if you leave your car outside Starbucks (), do you bring your steering wheel in with you? Generally, I'm not getting too far away from my Cobra, so the quick-release steering wheel seems superfluous to me. You could take the coil wire off or with my Kirkham, I have a battery and fuel pump shutoff. Not too many geniuses that can figure all those out very quickly. And if thieves want your car, they'll get it anyway. Save the money on the steering wheel for a 428!

I have the QR hub and it is nice. The signals work as well. I looked into doing it myself and it just wouldn't have been as clean, and the signals wouldn't have worked properly.

I love the look of the Billboards also, but you probably know that they aren't street legal (DOT). If you get into an accident it could be a problem. That is one of the reasons I went with the Avons.

Perfect example of the "avoid stranded costs" approach. If you're going to do that, do it now.

The QR is a great option. I wish my current cobra had one. I added it my option list on 821.

Good point, my theft deterrent for my Cobra will be proximity!

Good point on focusing on a 428 or 427, I see a big difference in value and fun.

BTW, the Starbuck's crowd may look down on the Cobra, it burns fuel, its hot, its stinky, it vibrates while its running, its not a hybrid, and there is no place to plug in their iPhone 6+, Ipad Pro, and Mac Book Pro.

Look directly to the right of my QR Hub second picture. You'll want one of those as well....

Yea, I am socializing the idea of a 427 Shelby block based build. I was just on the phone with an engine builder who said it basically takes $20 to start. He also said, Shelby is "plum out" of Aluminum blocks, because they lost their foundry....he said they are contemplating outsourcing to Korea. I don't know how true that is, but most of the other "American Made" stuff is made there, soooo that wouldn't be a shocker.

Anyway, 20k seems low after looking at Roush.

390 is looking better every day......but hen again, it is an ERA....decisions..decisions.

IMHO your ERA needs to have a 427 or 428! I think Patrick and others would agree. And not a Rousch.
I will keep my radar on for any good blocks. They pop up all the time.
Good luck on this journey. It's all part of the experience!

428 Iron Blocks are out there, just place a WTB on 332-428 Ford FE Engine Forum but only buy from one of the regulars.

For example, this 427 block: FordFE.com Classifieds: x4rdtech and I would be quite comfortable buying a block from Bobby Spears sight unseen.

Yes, I agree, 427 is the "goal". I was using Roush as an example of price. For a while, I was thinking of a 427 Chevy......but then I woke up.

Yes Patrick, but forums are either FANTASTIC or CATASTROPHIC. But, I have been trolling there for a while.

What's the going price for a 428 IB?

Under two grand for something that you can trust and from somebody you can trust. This is an outlier: 1968 1969 Ford 428CJ Engine Block Mustang Cougar Torino Ranchero | eBay

Well, since the Nasdaq is down 4% and S&P down 3%, we all have less money today to buy English parts.

Back on topic, the 390 is great, but if you're anything like me, you'll eventually want something better. I actually started thinking of buying a 428, but I got sick and tired of looking at old POS boat anchors. And ponied up for an aluminum Shelby block, but they're like $7,000 today. That's a boatload of money.

No Roush. I'd research it.

I had not heard about Shelby losing their foundry. I'm sure there is a story there. I'm pretty sure some folks still have a few in stock. And no, they ain't cheap!

Yes, they're now referring to it as a "lostry."

So the better investment would be to buy $20k in shares right now and wait.

BOT: Having it build from the ground up may be the best route either Pond or Shelby.

I am guessing even if Shelby does go offshore for casting, they will not pass that 50% savings in production cost onto the customer.
