Default Some ERA Questions

1) On a previous post and on your website FAQs, you stated ERA doesn't support 6sp transmissions. Is this because you know of an incompatibility with the chassis or are you saying ERA (you) hasn't installed a 6sp? Or, is that statement just a policy of ERA? The dimensions for the 6 sp Tremec and Richmond are so similar, if not the same as the 5sp, I was wondering why this setup wouldn't work.

2a) On your website (in the FAQs), you state a radio could be mounted on the tunnel. Could you post the picture associated with the link (http://www.erareplicas.com/cars/gspan.htm), as it appears the website link is a dead one? 2b) Is there a center console accessory available for mounting audio?

3) Is the 289-style "Drop" dash, with glovebox available with the 427?

4) Does your optional ERA design Rear Suspension with outboard brakes come with the adjustable coil overs?

5) Your website mentions the exposed roll bar legs, but I have noticed in some of your pictures, a rear panel covers the roll bar ala the 289. Can the rear panel be moved on the 427 to cover the roll bar legs from the cockpit?

6) What is the present wait time for a kit?

Hey Dreamer....I know Bob was going on vacation so he may not get back to you right away....Bob.....BOB?????

Can't remember when he was going.

Just curious why you would want the roll bar legs covered? I would kill to get my exposed...since I have #122 and they changed them around 250 or so to expose them.

Aggie's ride is 7 or 8 to 1 compression. It's a real weenie motor............but it looks cool Actually it's about 10 to 10.5 to 1 same as mine

Yes, but why??? The original car had the exposed legs.

6-7 months.

Bob and 427Aggie,

I'm not to caught up on making my car (I have to remember I'm in the dream phase i.e. research phase right now) look exactly like a 1965 Cobra. I'm thinking I WANT a small block (highly modified) for handling and 18 in wheels. I know there are a lot of purist out there, but I figure its my dollars, so I might as well get what I want and I think the covered legs look cleaner. BTW, Bob, what are the largest tires that will fit on the front and rear (with IRS) and what are the offsets (that is another dead link on your website)? Could I install 285/35s (front) and 335/30s (rear) without a mod?

Hi Dreamer. 1 I have had a 6-spd richmond in my car. ERA has to notch the frame and move the hand brake assembly to fit and clear in the tunnel. 18 inch tires? WHY. I have 17 inch tires and a set of 15 inch tires for the street. When autocrossing and road racing, the 15 inch tires will slide befor breaking loose under hard turning, the 17 inchers give they little WARNING. I liked my 6-spd, but where can you go 160 mph, and do you have the motor to push your car that fast. I have the first powersteering rack car built at ERA. I also wanted my car different from all the others. My car # is 428. The car is only 2500 lbs with a alum Shelby 452 ci. I have 3.31 rear and are going to a 3.07 with the racing G-Force 5 spd I just installed. You didn't say if you wanted pin drive wheels?Reverse on a 6-spd is in the extension housing of the tail shaft, and the trans is about 1 inch longer. The FIA is the car you should be looking at with the Ideas that you have said. Take a trip to ERA and look at the cars, Talk to Peter P. and Bob P. they are straight and honest about their product. I have not heard or seen a bad thing or a design flaw in this product, that is why a own one. In Kit Car 1983 they said, Era builds the strongest chassic of the replica cars and the body will never crack because it IS NOT a structure member of the frame. The Car is built like a tank. I have seen car that are 18 years old and look great, driven on the roads and raced. Show on signs of slowing down. Dreamer this is only my 3 cents. It took me 20 years to get my car, it was worth the wait. Rick Lake

Rick,

I'm thinking Cobra R 18in (no pins). I want the biggest rubber I think I can live with to get them to stick when I want to move. Actually, I probably will not do any racing (OK, maybe once, just to see how it is). I can't really justify why I need the gearing for 160 mph, but I want it. Hey, why do any of these guys put 427s, 429s, 460s, or Supercharged ALUM 452s in 2500lbs street cars. We can't justify it. We just want it. Also, I was thinking of purchasing a Viper (the used ones are somewhat reasonable) when I caught the Cobra bug. I would be trying to get my Cobra to a level of performance where I wouldn’t feel I lost anything by going with the Cobra. I still might go that route because rolling windows and A/C are nice to have, but I like the idea of building (at least the parts I want to build) my own car and making it like I want it. The reason I'm concentrating on ERA is I hear they are the best. I was looking at EM as well, but they seem to be having problems. I hope that works out. I think I will at least consider Unique as well and rest assured, before I buy I will have tried.

427 wheel offsets and tire widths(17" wheel, but an 18" will be similar) are posted here

The tire widths are pretty much maxed out.

FIA sizes are posted here

I almost forgot. What is the story on the transmissions? For the T56, are there some known incompatibility problems?

The T-56 is just too friggin' big. It requires tunnel and crossmember mods, plus moving the seat.
