The Canton T-style, road race version with the trap doors provides the best bang for the buck, IMHO

In reality a high capacity pan is probably OK for everyday driving. BUT you may find in the near future that spirited driving is more to your liking and at that time the gated pan becomes an asset. It just controls the oil better than an open pan that just collects and stores it.

I used to have a standard sump on my engine. It was fine going straight ahead. But I would notice a drop in oil pressure even under moderate 'street' driving while cornering. On the track, for get about it, tight turn, NO oil pressure.
I rebuilt the engine and went with a baffled road race pan. NOTE: ROAD RACE pan, NOT a 1/4 mile drag race type pan.

Canton pan, pickup, and windage tray.
wrench87 Canton t pan with there windage tray and pickup is a good way to go. The other way is a drysump system. I have a canton t-pan and windage tray on my motor. Make sure that the rotating assembly clears the windage tray. I had to adjust mine to clear a couple of rod bolts from hitting the tray.I would also a 1 extra quart of oil to the motor to help with oil starvation when hard turning or driving. I run 2 quarts with the oil cooler and lines in my car. I had no problems yet, I get a small leak from the rear main seal. I can live with it. I am just marking my space Rick L

I am using the road race T pan on my SO, the above advice is sound, RR T pan is a good way to go.

Take a look at the Moroso T pan (I think the p/n is 20608...) Its a pretty nice looking piece - silver in color - and I've installed a couple lately - night and day nicer than the Moroso pans of a few years back - and not bad priced either.

Great find Barry. It even holds a quart more than the Canton and isn't even $250. Here's a lill' info from the Mfr:
Fits: Ford 352-428 FE Engines into most front sump production chassis except Mustang II.
Kicked-out front sump increases oil capacity to 8 quarts which reduces oil temperature and insures adequate supply to the oil pump pickup
Includes 6 trap doors, 2 baffles and a removable sump tray that keeps the oil contained in the pickup area during hard acceleration, cornering and braking
Features a magnetic drainplug and oil temperature bung
Clear zinc plating for durability and corrosion resistance
Note: Oil Pan Capacities DO NOT Include Oil Filter Capacity

i checked out the moroso pan jeggs sells them at first glance it looks like a bargain, but the pan is 244.99 the pick up is 64.00 and the windage tray is 75.00 . the canton road race is 335.00 with pickup and another 79.00 for the windage tray wich comes with gaskets and hardware? i do like the silver color over the gold color on the canton though

I started with a good looking chrome 5 quart from Summit...about $50 bucks I think. It was great for the first 9 years, then I finally started the motor.
The HV oil pump sucked the pan dry resulting in zero pressure. I have since changed to a Canton Road Race pan which also looks cool, but weighs as much as a boat anchor, and the weld quality is about what you would see in a high school metal shop.........I just finished painting the car, and I should have it back on the road in another month. My guess is that the oil pressures problem will be solved, but the weight distribution has moved forward a ways. Guess I should have saved up another month and gone with the aluminum version........

I have the canton road race pan on my 427 and have never noticed an oil pressure drop.I think I bought the dip stick from them also.

This is gonna be a bit "commercial" - but I can match Summit on those Moroso pans - I'm a Moroso dealer - that's how I found them. They also have a less expensive version without the trap doors - that one goes for $250 including the pickup. The three pans I've used so far have been really well made - no leakers, nice fit and finish - not so garish in appearance....

I wholeheartedly agree that a baffled and gated ROAD RACE pan is good insurance. I personally have an Aviaid on my 427 and a Canton on my 5.0. One caveat, though. I know of three brand new Canton pans that had small leaks in the welds. You don't find them until the car is up and running. Not so bad on a Cobra, 'cause the pan is easy to remove. But in a Fox Mustang you have to pull the engine to replace the pan. If I ever bought another Canton, I'd definitely find a way to pressure test it before installation.

I didn’t see this mentioned, but I use a Milodon Cobra road race pan. It’s a 7 quart capacity pan with baffles and trap door and 6 inches deep.
