I like the tunnel wedge too well to trash it yet. The Blue Blunder stuff just doesn't have the pizzazz of the Tunnel Wedge. Beside's after all the machining and porting it works right well with Keith's stage II heads. I had the faces cut for a perfect height and port match when torqued. Barry's hooking me up on the Dove disaster anyway. He said he's got a welder that can weld tin foil together, in high winds, with rain, while flagellating profusely.. now there' a visual..

I left Hampton Roads last year and got a year of skoolin in DC, finishing up this month, and now back to Mother Offutt. I built the Mustang there and did 6 enjoyable years, raised a family there, but man it sounds colder now than I remember it

BTW .... Barry pressure tested the intake and it was leaking where I suspected. I could kick myself, having seen the bad/porous spot and had second thoughts before I installed it the first time.. I got in a rush.. He had his super-duper welder literally rebuild the whole corner of the intake with new weld. An over night pressure test showed zero leaks. After that he touched up the intake faces on the Bridgeport, clearanced all the pushrod holes and did a few "special request" items. It's due here tomorrow. It'll be this coming weekend's project.

In 1992, GM went to Mobil one in the LT engines in the Corvette--It ran cooler by enough that they were able to remove the oil coolers from the cars----

In the Cobras out there being street driven with hugh oil pans, external filters and coolers, the oil is not getting to the temps it needs to be(above the boiling temp of H2O) and combined with big cams( poor vacume) too large carbs(poor vacume) poor or no PCV or crankcase venting, finned valve covers (cooling) the engine is acting like a still, making liquid, and it is condensing on the valve covers and poluting the oil.

There may be leaks causing some of the problem, but a leak is a leak, and poor crank case venting along with not enough oil temp will have condensation and milk shakes.

If you don't believe it, OK, if you don't have the problem fine, but I have seen this hundreds of times on these type vehicles---and they all share the same symphons and react the same to proper corrective actions---

UNDY---- keep us advised of the manifold leak---we just recently had an Edelbrock that had an external seepage by the thermostat/bypass hose area.

I had to throw away a Blue Thunder intake manifold because it had a pore inside one of the pushrod holes and was seeping water inside the engine.
I discovered it with the valve cover off and the engine running.
When trying to weld a tube inside the hole the water came out somewhere else, and if I soldered that pore shut the water found some other way out into the engine.
If you have a Dove you may have an aluminum casting defect like I had.

Kendall was owned by Sunoco, sold to Tosco, and is now under Conocophillips. It is not the Kendall that you knew as young mechanic. That oil is now Brad Penn. (I know, that's what you were thinking.)

Gasoline companies--Shell, Amoco, Texaco, etc

separated by where there main interests were (years ago)

Shell drills, refines and markets and Texaco is now Chevron. Conoco owns Kendall and that's what's in the can. What used to be in a Kendall can is now in a Brad Penn can. I'd say anyone trying to decide on which oil to use should not rely on the name brand.

One thing's for sure, you can't trust that what used to be in a can in 1970 is what's in the can now. Sorta like seeing the Shell truck pumping gas into the tank at a Chevron station, that just changed it's signs from Texaco.
