You can see here on my motor mount that I use the "old style" pre-1965 two bolt type. You can see the two bolts that go to the block and the big one bolt that goes to the frame piece. If you just loosen these up, without taking them out, you'll get a good inch, maybe a bit more. To go much above that though you're going to have to remove them.

Patrick, is your mount slotted above the main bolt?

I have no idea if they are fully slotted on a CSX but I know that in my case it is far easier to access and loosen the frame bolt as opposed to the engine mount bolts, and the slots could give him more room to raise it up. Just a thought...

OK, good advice on the motor mounts. I will go there if I have to for clearance to fix the pan bolt.
And to think I asked at the start of this thread (6 pages ago) how much of a PITA it would be to change the pan gasket. I'd rather do that 10 times than do all this again. Everything is relative.....

In the end the real PITA will have been babysitting this thread, meeting our demands for pics, and putting up with our *&^%.

Actually I was thinking of sending out scotch to those that helped me. Even the moral support has been great. I think Pat and Chas have been waking up in the AM and thinking, gee, I wonder how Doug's pan bolt is doing today.....ok, maybe not.

Sorry been away for a while but you've been in good hands with Pat and Jim's support.
Actually no dreaming-been very happy it ain't me on my back (again) upside down.
I'm not nuts about 1/2" but any more and I'd be up nights... If more, you could have Nick cut you a shim to the Melling bolt pattern.
The real PIA for you is that Shelbys have the crossmember that ERA's do not. Wide open under our pans. Try not to lift the motor. On top of the extra work and contact points the boys mentioned you don't wanna drill/bash/push against a dangling 600 pounds of crap. Unless you shim the space on the mounts temporarily.
A few sips of Macallan 21 yr old would be nice...Then NONE of us would care about oil leaks

Here's my take. I don't think the one broken bolt is causing your leak. As I wrote the other day, I have the same Canton pan and it leaked down the side rails/flanges at rpm above 2000 or so. The flanges were not straight. After putting a straight edge (square) to it I saw the non-flat condition of the pan. The pan came like this from the factory. Just do some tweaking and hammer the holes down so the straight edge shows no more than .020 gap. Plug up the hole from the broken bolt with silicone. I've had broken pan bolts before without leakage. Pulling the engine for one broken bolt shouldn't be necessary.

Pat's right. I just couldn't bring myself to do that, but I might be saner if I did. I will double check the flanges side-to-side as well as down the length of the pan (which is what I checked before) to be sure they are flat and if not adjust them.

I didn't realize ERA is the only Cobra that has free open access to the oil pan. it just drops straight down with no interference. Nothing in the way. Worth the price of admission in itself.

Sorry to correct you guys so late here, but you're both wrong. The SPF frame allows you to drop the pan straight down (at least with a SB). I"m pretty sure the same is true with the BB.
