Very sorry for your loss. It was incidents like this that have stuck with me from my days in law enforcement. Seeing somones life cut short at such a young age is tragic. Like was said before, she is in a better place now.

We're all blessed that the Lord took her fast.

She loved all,..... animals and was enrolled and in her first semester at the University of Nebraska, taking class's to become a veterinarian. But now, I'll be she's attending to all the Lords animals in Heaven.

Sorry for your loss. There's been some accidents in my area too, and a law was just passed making it illegal for teens to text and drive.

My wife just upgraded her phone - I fought it for years. Mine is still 10 years old and does exactly what I need it to do. I work in high tech, but I really do not like the things much.

I made my three girls read this thread.

Kevin, we can only hope this tragedy saves others.

I agree Steve.

Thank you Jamo. The faster we all get the word out, the sooner we can stop such frivolous deaths, young & old. We just laid Alley down to rest today. So many people loved her, that the count of mourners was apx. 600 people, so the service was split into two groups.

It lasted 4.5 hrs.

REST IN PEACE ALLEY.

I would appreciate your creative minds.

We race 360 winged sprint cars and Alley not only loved them and helped work on ours, she also wanted to race them after college. The last few years, I've wanted to build a street legal,... two seat sprint car, and replicate it as much to the racing sprints. I have everything worked out on the engineering.

I want to start a non-profit organisation, similar to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) in Alleys name and the cause. Too many people are dieing with this texting.

I don't think I have enough time to dedicate to all it takes, so I'll be talking with Alley's friends that are in their first year of college, and ask if I start the cause, if they will take control. I'm sure they will because they have already made T-Shirts and bumper stickers to help my sisters cost for the funeral.

What I need is a catchy name like MADD.

I thought with people seeing a SPRINT CAR,...on the street, that we could have something like,... "Racers Against Texting While Driving"
But, RATWD, clearly does not mean anything ! lol

We will need donation's,..... to build the sprint car. Somewhere around $20,000.

I'm in contact with MADD about the requirements on getting a license, permit ect....

Do you think this is a good idea and will help on getting the word out, with a street sprint car ?

I thought we could set up booths at car shows, and hand out fact based information about texting & driving. With the approval of the University of Nebraska, and community college's, we could reach out to the young people.

I need your thoughts & ideas for the heading.

Should I also start a new thread about the cause & donations, since this thread is just information about Alley's accident ?
I can attach this link to the new thread.

Kevin,
MADD started out as against Drunk Driving, hence the name, but it evolved to alcohol and drugs. I would think you could do something along the lines of Distracted Driving, so you could have RADD, but i don't know if that is too close and would be an issue. I see people reading newspapers, books, typing on laptops, and those are just as bad as texting. I understand the connection to texting, but if it was me, I would want to be sure everyone was aware of all the distractions.

Kevin,

RADD sounds good.

Set up a Paypal and I'm in.

Drivers Against Road Texting

Drivers Against Distracted Driving - might not be a bad one for exactly the same reason that Jamo made his daughters read this thread.

BTW, Jamo, what was their reaction?

I think people need to be more and more shocked for things to affect them, so I hope you take this one with that thought in mind - I don't mean it to be cruel, but I think it stings a little bit and I did not even know her.

madbot - My Alley Died Because Of Texting

And MAD can be used with some other letters following it - but I think using her name makes it very personal, and allows people to identify simply by imagining the name of their loved one in place of Alley.

Madbot can be presented to really young kids as the robot in the phones who is responsible for saving texts/messages until someone is not driving, and he gets angry when he is not allowed to do his job.

I hope that helps...

Steve

Steve,
That sounds like a good idea. The personal touch does make it sting a little more.

I had forgotten about RADD, and I think DADD is already used as well.

How about..

DAFT  /dæft, dɑft/
–adjective, -er, -est.
1. senseless, stupid, or foolish.
2. insane; crazy.

Drivers Against Phucking Texters

I personally am a lot more concerned with the death and destruction that people that are texting are causing others than their own self inflicted harm.
I feel the exact same towards anyone that drives impaired from drugs, drinking or lack of sleep,etc..

A day doesn't go by that I don't have to take evasive action at least once to keep from getting hit/killed by some idiot texting or chatting on the phone.
It is past time for criminal penalties be used.

I would just like to say that myself and my son have met Kevin at his home in Eagle Ne. and have attended the races at Eagle Raceway with him and you will not find a nicer guy than Kevin Gilmore.....I was also out of state when i heard of the tragedy that took the life of one of his loved ones and called him personaly to convay my condolences on his and his families loss....it is a tragedy....regardless of who caused this accident there does need to be something to keep it from happening again....i dont have all the answers to what can be done or what should be done but getting the phone service providers to do away with texting alltogether may be one solution and it may not even be the right soultion but it would stop texting while driveing....or if an officer see's someone texting while driveing....take the phone away and dont give it back till they show up in court to get it back....my heart goes out to Kevin and his family....i can only hope and pray that a tragedy like this dosent happen again....EVER....

Thanks Bob, you're quite the friend and feel that same about buddy.

RADD- won't work because I'm utilizing the sprint car as a tool, so it will get awesome attention. We need the Racer.......

Tom- "Set up a PayPal and I'm in"

When the time comes after I get all the legality done, I'll set up a PayPal like you suggested. Good idea.

Are the any attorneys in the house ? (my father was, but passed away years ago)

So,.... (RAT) "Racers Against Texting", is another one, but the problem is it's generic, meaning all texting, just not while driving.

That's great Tom, but it has to start with the letter, "R", for Racers Against Texting (And or While) Driving.

Kevin, Given a few days I can normally come up with something, but this one is tough. I almost had RIDE OUT, but the EOU in order proved difficult to come up with something. I was thinking Racers Informing Drivers _ _ _ Texting, but never could make it work. I think I will post my partial ideas and maybe someone can play off of that

RADAT - Racers Against Driving and Texting

Kind of a play on texting and common slang "READ DAT" Racers Educating About the Dangers of Driving And Texting. You could even do a "READ DAT later" slogan with it to fit the theme.

Just a couple of quick ideas.
