I agree it will get better, but when and at what cost? Construction has a cycle and we all know we really needed a market correction. I just do not have the drive to fight this any more.
I would still like to be self employed but I am not so sure about that.

Fred,
That Avatar made me have to read the post 5 times to find what you had said. Is she self employed?

Hey Steve,
How are you feeling today? Much better I hope. We have cold rain and it is miserable after those two Spring days that got into the 70s. Darn overnight weather changes really make it hard to keep from having the flu or colds.

He's absolutely right, Steve, Ft. Worth is having a great little boom over there. They've set up the right infrastructure, have a great river district, great downtown. Dallas doesn't have the City government that can pull that off. For that, I'm proud to say I don't live in Dallas-Richardson, thank you.
Ft. Worth is a great town and I'd live there in a heartbeat if I wouldn't have an 1:15 hour commute.
Here's the view out of my window on the 33rd floor. 12 tower cranes with 2 more coming up within 2 weeks. (the Ritz Phase 2 and a Chase project)

Dam, Redding is at it again. They are broke and so far in the hole they are approaching the state budget deficit. But they have to have that new $35 million dollar police station as the roof on the one they have now leaks and it would cost so much to repair it. So in this mornings paper they have appointed a 15 man commission to determine the best way to pay for it. And of course they are paying those 15 men a ridiculous sum. They don't need a new police station. They just need a few more donut shops.

It is amazing to me the article on CNN Money today that cities are going broke and they are cutting services and raising taxes.
One city in California,(can't remember where) said the were going to have to cut Police services and take money from education to continue to operate.
So, if I hear this right they want to get rid of all the police, and throw the school kids out into the street so they can continue their frivolous spending. Yep that makes sense to me, NOT!
I swear we need to throw all those crooked bastards out of office and hire Spongebob. Even he could not screw up this country any worse than the current politicians have.

Steve,
I read a story in AARP quite some time ago that said that many cities would shortly be in trouble. Some of it is due to contracts that they signed with city employees to provide pension and health care. Private industry can dissolve a company on paper to beat the employees out of it, but cities are stuck. The only thing a city can do is raise taxes.
I suppose the whole thing would be above water except for extreme increases in health care. At first glance, health care seems like extortion. When I mentioned that one could get a hotel room for $50 a day and a hospital room for a mere $1000 a day, my buddy said guess again, about $1500-2000 extra for him to stay in the room with his wife and a newborn. I would sure like to really know where the money goes in health care. Somebody must be making a fortune.
The end result was that AARP surmised that some people would not be able to afford the new taxes on a home that took a lifetime to pay off. Sheesh.

Wes & Steve,
Nearly all the cities and towns in this area are in trouble. Yesterday this city announced they want to add ANOTHER surcharge to our property taxes so they can buy new Fire trucks and equipment. A few years ago the dam crooks sold all the Equipment they had to repair the streets with and this street where I live was last paved in 1970. None of the money they get ever goes anywhere but into their pockets. They are starting to drive people out of their homes with property tax surcharges now as many of the people here are retired and on fixed incomes. And that 2.3% cost of living increase was a joke. Our utility rates alone went up that much in the past year.

Yea they are talking the same line here, less services and more taxes.
I am afraid we are in for a very long troubled period. It seems everyone has to cut back except the local city govenments.

Steve,
I think I should run for City Councilman. Then I could get my street paved and bank a lot of the rest of the money.
And the darn school district is as bad. Every year they add a measure to the ballot to get more money to repair the school buildings and two years ago they used the school that is right up the street from me as their main one to repair. They got their money, the school was condemned and that have had it shut down for the last tow years. Where did that money go? Now they want another $60 million to buy property closer to the school district boundary and build a new school so maybe some kids in the other district will come to that school. What crap. They haven't figured out yet that their attendance is dropping because so many people have left here.
