If you're ever in the Sacramento area, give me a call, Ernie.

Retirement possibilities
Take a look at Sedona, New Mexico, incredible roads to drive, low humidity, pefect temp's, low rainfall, and very reasonable cost of living.

As I get older I find that family and friends take on a new level of appreciation in my life. As such, it's important for me to locate at least reasonably close to them. Say, within a few hours drive time.
I don't know a soul in New Mexico, beautiful though it may be.

Actually, I no longer live in that area, thankfully.
All kidding aside, Anderson has some great house values and a huge Super Wal Mart - plus a great car show every year.

I seriously considered the Redding area in general and that is one reason why I want to go no farther than Southern Oregon. Redding is still a reasonable drive from there. I will look in Shasta County, but I'm pretty well set on heading up North from there.

Redding is the best place to live in that entire area - huge classic car town, great shopping - house prices a little on the high side versus Anderson.

Enterprise High School, class of '69, eh eh. Well OK, that was like one of four high schools I went to over the years. Kind of nice though, I can "almost" fit in in any number of cities around the country. Redding is pretty cool, I always liked it there.

Of the states that I have lived in, PA, NY, WV, NC, OH, and visited many others,
I would have to pick WV. Beautiful topography. Nice change of seasons, not too hot or too cold. Great hunting. Relatively cheap housing. I'll probably end up staying close to family.
Here's some listings of states by tax rates.

Here's my guidelines for a retierment location.
1) At least 60 miles away from any living relative in your area or town ( that way you or they can't just drop in ).
2) At least 300 miles away from your kids ( so they don't rely on you for their support and always ask for money).
3) Good weather..that means little rain, no snow, no high winds and clear skys.
4) An area that has plenty of things to do with folks your own age.
5) Inexpensive food and housing and low taxes.
6) Most importantly..close to the market and a good golf course and car clubs..

I am going to miss cruising down Waikiki beach, barefoot in the sand, taking in the sights (all those lovely ladies covered in oil...).

Being a liberal you

Your geographical location doesn't matter much.

I got a empty apartment at the end of my shop I would rent you, you gotta cut your own firewood though..
How about Bend? The best of eastern Oregon and we could use the extra 9% of your income/IRA funds....

Presently enjoying Cailfornia, heading North in due time.
People at the stores here keep asking me if I want a "bag" when I purchase something. I never considered the option of not using a bag of some sort. It makes sense, now that I that I've considered it. I guess you really don't need a bag for small things you could easily carry. Still, kind of weird...
Whats up with those protesters in front of KFC? I happen to like chicken myself. I suppose they have a good reason to protest, whatever it is...
And where are all these California "babes" I see on TV all the time? I've been to a Super Walmart a couple of times now and haven't seen ANYTHING like that around here! I feel cheated...
Cruise control actually makes sense...
Nice not having to drive in circles...
Wow, people drive really fast here, I can't wait to get my Cobra off the boat!
The burritos are HUGE! No way a guy can eat on of those at a single meal.
Cold as heck at night around here, in the 40's first night I arrived. DAM!!!! Didn't bring a jacket, I was told it doesn't get cold this time of year. What the heck IS cold???
Prices in general are great, I find myself thinking I should get "two" of whatever it is. Sales tax is a monster though! Whoa, and the State is STILL broke? Something aint right there...
I brought my dogs, one of which is named Kimo. A lady asks me the dogs name, I tell her, she says, "KILO", thats a nice name. I'm like, is this lady on drugs or something?

Cut my own firewood? I barely remember how to do that. As I recall it went something like, buy the chain saw, buy the four wheel drive truck, pay the towing fee's after the truck get's stuck. Massive medical bills from the chain saw slicing and dicing everything in it's path. The story ends with something like buying a new house when the first one burns down,,,
I better pass on that apartment Scott.

Ernie,
The downpours over last weekend should have made you feel right at home. Of course the mud in the river wasn't pretty.

Eh eh, I sure hope it's not raining when the Cobra and my motorcycle arrive. That's a long drive North in the rain with no top(s)!
Swimming in boxes currently, still trying to figure it all out. I didn't make any notations on the boxes so everyone is like a surprise package. DOH! Sometimes you get something nice, sometimes you don't.

Well, not that you can put much faith in our weather forecast around here but if your Cobra and Motorcycle arrive within the next week or so, you should have pretty nice weather.
