Really love the color, Jeff...it's really grown on me. Just love how you have built a totally "brand new" car, and it holds the appearance of a "restored original" car. Can't wait to see it get on the road. BTW, I need to get my hands on some of that seal around the hood opening. Is that a McMaster-Carr find there?

Guys

Thanks, slow going but at least its back looking like a car.

No thermostat, originals run fine w/o such items. The upper recirculation hose will be blocked off thus not a necessary item.

Nick, no restrictions here......

The seal was from my friend Curt at Cobra Automotive.

When you change your mind. Wilson manifolds has an inline housing. Might prove helpful on those cold mornings...
1/2 hr warmups aren't exactly music to your pocketbook. Shelby had a budget for .05 a gallon fuel. Webers don't run right until the engine is at optimum temp.

Well I have had several discussions with folks around running original set up for Webers. The warm up is long but I also have set up my fans remotely and have voided the side vents like the early cars to help heat up times.

Luckily Cobras heat up nicely as they sit since air does not pass all that well.

I thought about a remote thermostat but was told it would cause other issues.... or so I was told by Lynn Park, John Bessey and Paul Martin. Of course they are west coast runners.

How does your car run in VT?

Aside from the cold starts/no choke thing. It's been running great. I know Lynn runs his FIA car on the track, mostly, & in pretty warm weather. I saw it a few times up at the Local meet, when I lived in CA. Modeled a lot of my underhood stuff off that car. I guess I've run the car here & there, also. We sit at about the same elevation. I've never run the car w/o a thermostat. The big difference is the weather. It may touch freezing a couple times a year, there. & only for a few night hours. Them it warms up. They rarely ever see rain. So, I don't know how she will fare on a cold day, here, w/o that valve in the line. With my radiator, it would likely never warm up. So really, the big difference for me is that cold starts are quite a bit more frequent. I don't have a problem getting her started. Sometimes she does resist, however.

Great advice Hugh, will play it by ear as the change will be easiest part of build.

I am told the thermostat-less cars run consistent 180 + it is low but if consistent it would not be too different than my old CCX here in NE.

I'm running one of those remote in-line thermostats, too. I don't baby it much on cold start-ups...pretty much just let it run while I'm buckling up my belts and then go.
Car doesn't pop or fart..just does it's thing seemingly happily. Seems to run cool, too, when on the move. In traffic, it will kick on the fan, but I've been very happy with Jim's initial setup and tune at SAAC37 he did for me....just corrected a small transition stumble that he noticed when driving the car...it didn't bother me none. I would say that since you are running a different radiator than both Hyde and I, your running characteristics may be a bit different....I think it will come down to this in the end. You can see my remote thermostat housing in the lower left of this photo...

These leather seats, as Nick said, are 25yr old CCX so you need to find a toasted CCX or have a set made. I know ERA makes the frames and has extensive measurements. Remember 427 cars used Naugahyde and 289's leather.

I would say source from: (My advice = a great seat makes a huge difference. Don't skimp here)

427 comp had Naugahyde, street cars big and small had leather.
The guy that trimmed the CCX seats is still in business. I could quote some frames to send him.
