The guys at GMP diecast will be flattered.....

How much $ will you charge for bodies?

I sent email to these guys a couple of times and never got a response. Guess like a lot of places, no one wants to take a chance with guys who order from overseas with fears of money laundering or credit card rejects after the goods are sent. Would have been a great way to ship a body overseas, sure cut the cost.

Ozgur, thats pretty neat. Are you going to verify the scanned data by measuring a real car? Like verify interior dimensions, headlight/tailight spacing, etc to make sure they are correct? I'm just curious about the procedures used with this method.

Really cool technology you got there Ozgur. :)

1985 CCX 11-14-2007 11:19 AM

I agree with Kris..........Cool stuff

Hi,
i've created 3d model of 289fia couple years ago, before gmp released particular car.
FYI, scanned data format is STL which is basically polygon data, i need class A surfaces for next step
i'm checking now, real car dimensions vs. my 3d model vs. scanned math data.
I do not have any plan to sell bodies, this is my pet project
10 years passed after my 427 built, but now i would like to built 289.
Regards,
Ozgur

I thought it was Miles' car but 2431 has cut-back doors. It looks like the model does not and that's what threw me.
I know... I'm picking nits! It IS really cool!

Larry:
I have this model sitting here on my desk at work. It has the correct cut-back doors:

LMH 11-14-2007 03:54 PM

I see now Russ, thanks!
The door should go a little farther back on the model, to the edge of the fender. On the one photo taken from above, there is a little bit of body between the fender and door.
Don't get me wrong though, it's not a big deal.

Dang-it! You're absolutely right. Now that I look at it more closely, the rear fender flares aren't big enough either, and the front edge of the hood scoop doesn't have the proper curvature. In addition, the gumball placement on the nose is incorrect.

That's it, I'm putting an M80 in this thing.

LMH 11-14-2007 04:52 PM

HaHaHa!
Sorry Russ, didn't mean to blow it for you! It's still pretty cool!

CobraV8 11-15-2007 02:56 AM

Ozgur, what software are you using for the class A modeling?

Simon

Ozgur_Tan 11-15-2007 04:34 AM

Hi Simon,
I'm using now meshlab (http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/) for cleaning of STL data and development version of rhino3d osx (http://www.irhino3d.com) for orientation of math data.
As soon as i've done with all corrections, i'll use CATIA for class A surface work and 5 axis CNC milling of model.

Ozgur

Ozgur...I was planning a trip to the moon, could you throw together some plans for a rocket for me? you know...on your spare time...

Ozgur_Tan 11-15-2007 09:27 AM

Hi joey,
Hah hah, That's very funny. You made my day !
The thing is even jaguar xj-220 started as pet project of engineers from Coventry, UK.
