KC has a 390 advertised on his website for $12K, but that obviously wouldn't include a date coded 427 S/O block.

Again, I wanted to reduce the weight on the nose and of the complete car. I think getting a modern alloy block with a 100-125 lb weight reduction, priority main oiling, improved head sealing, etc. was worth the extra $7,000 difference, at least according to the two KC engines listed on his website.

I agree with Mickmate. I started to look around for a vintage block, but: a) couldn't find a good one, and if you did, it was the price of a new alloy block, and b) the weight loss on the front end is/was crucial to me.
I think the price of vintage blocks has decreased with the introduction of the iron genesis blocks, also with the aluminum shelbyand pond blocks. I'm guessing an original block is somewhat close to an iron genesis block in price, but the genesis has thicker cylinder walls, and I believe is still 1965 date coded.

I'd get the iron genesis, or aluminum pond/shelby instead of an original block at the present time.

I need to clarify my comment earlier which is quoted by Anthony. When I said the CSX block adds about $1,000 to an FE build, I meant to an FE build with the aluminum Pond block. Sorry about that.

Just using the KC prices, an FE build with a Pond block is $17K versus the 390 FE build at $12K.

I like your view on the situation: great story to go with the car. I think that these stories also have great names as well. You should have a contest. My vote is to call the car/story "The Water Moccasin"

IMO I'm looking forward to trying the alum block, both for weight savings (the car may see some road course time if all goes well) and the modern technology.

Imagine finding a virgin SO block, then always wincing every time you put the pedal down for fear you're going to ruin a piece of history. I would, at least at first. Our 67 Fairlane has a non-original, 70's built 427 medium riser and I worry enough about breaking it.

There's plenty to hear about the Genesis iron blocks on the FE Forum, but in terms of Genesis aluminum blocks, I haven't heard of anyone running them.

Robert Pond makes a nice aluminum 427 block. Shelby as well but it's a little more. Genesis did make a few aluminum blocks but their gig has been mostly iron blocks. Buy one from a good vendor like Keith Craft, George Anderson, Barry Rabotnick and the likes. They sort the good from the bad and fix the quirks these blocks all have. It would be wise to buy pistons and rotating assy from them so everything can be fit and blueprinted/balanced for assy if you still need all those items. JMO.

Awesome ideas. I love GA MUD and WASHME...those would be both good inside jokes not everybody would get.

I always wanted a cobra with a GUMBALL license plate too, and here in Cincy we have 'concrete river' similar to the LA Basin in Gumball Rally. Now if I can only find a Daytona ragtop for photos... =)

I'm leaving tomorrow AM for Atlanta, will post pics when I can. Wish me luck!

made it back in one piece and the car is much better than expected. They sure know how to use a forklift down there.

Love the tag ideas. I'm thinking UNDRWTR....but only if we end up with way too much money in it! If only I could fit SUNKEN TREASURE onto a plate.

Default Finally...pics

Sorry to keep you all waiting. Here's the preliminary shots from picking it up and getting it up on the lift.

Believe it or not, they move these cars around with huge forklifts with 15' long forks...And they're actually pretty gentle. I was sure they bent an a arm or something but there were only a couple chips in the paint on the frame tubes...

The only other damage was a trunk lid that was bent sideways and wouldn't latch. Looks like the trunk prop froze and someone forced it. About 10 minutes of work got it back in place.

Of course it rained for a little bit on the way home...
