Haywire harness problem
I've got a 7 fuse haywire harness and I have a full 12v draw on the negative side of the battery with the key off. If I pull out the hazzard fuse or the relay for the hazzard the draw is zero. The main power comes thru the fuse, into the relay and out of the fuse panel. With the fuse and relay in place there is no power coming out of the fuse panel after the relay . The test light only shows power in one of the prongs on the relay. I'm very confused.

Terry,
Does Haywire supply you with a wire diagram? If so, it would be very helpful to post a picture of it. (for this problem and others in the future) If one did not come with it, give them a call and ask them to e-mail you one. You will want to have one on hand anyway. It sounds like a pretty basic set up.
Steve
P.S.,
Post the part number of your harness maybe we can find a diagram for it on the web.

Northwood:
This sounds like an Alternator problem, With the key in the off position disconnect the large red wire to the Alternator, if it sparks when you touch it to the post you removed it from, then its a diode burned out. change the Alt. everything should be fine after that.

The only diagram I have is a hand drawn one for the dash and the dash wiring was fairly simple with the haywire, the manual for the haywire worked pretty good exept for the fact that my setup didn't match any one diagram in it, I had to blend a couple of the diagrams to make it match mine, that got a little confusing. If I can clean up the hand drawn diagram I will be happy to post it. I'm taking the car to my engine guy on wednesday to see if he can figure it out.
I've isolated the drain to the hazzard relay but for the life of me can't tell where it is from there and there isn't any spark at the alternator wire with the key off as well.

Relays
N.C.
There should be a constant 12v to the relay, that is the way relays work "they use a smaller wire to actuate the connection of a larger wire in most case's, and 1 wire going to the relay will be hot all the time" is this a 5 terminal relay? are you sure it power's the hazard, I have three relays on my Cobra, thats not counting the main starter relay "the big one that goes to the starter" the three relays i have = 1 controls the electric fans on the radiator 2 = its kind of a pre-relay to the starter relay 3 = controls headlights. So far only one has gone bad and it stuck in the open position and wouldn't you know it "the radiator fans relay" without those it over heated at backed up light signals. On a relay 2 of the terminals are what power the device (hot in) and (hot out to device) the relay connects these wires, 2 other terminals are what actuate the points in the relay, they could come from a toggle switch or in my case from a thermostat on the radiator.

Terry,
I e-mailed Haywire to get the prints for both 7 fuse harnesses. Apparently they are too busy to reply. So much for Haywire.
If you would post what prints you have, I think we could help you out.
Good luck,
Steve

As far as I know we have it wired correctly. There is constant power going to the relay and that was what I couldn't understand. I was told that with the key off, and a test light on the negative side of the battery there should be no light, but in the situation of having power to the relay at all times that seems impossible to achive. Haywire, once I got a hold of them stated that there is a very small draw on the system, like .02 amps or something like that. Enough to keep the relay warm. We will see. I was unable to get a wire diagram as of yet, however I am still working on getting one. My prints show nothing of this part of the system.
Thanks guys,
Terry

haywire harness problem
Northwood,
I dont think you are looking at a relay. I think you are looking at the flasher. Looks almost identical but its not. Look for the simple stuff like the pigtails in the light socket being out of place and hitting the side of the socket.
I found the light bulbs in my sockets were twisted so hard that the locating ears were sheared off when I got my kit. Hope this helps ya. dusty

Terry,
Please keep posting your progress or email me directly. I will be starting my installation of Haywire 7 fuse system in a couple of weeks, and it would be great know how you resolved your issues.
Thanks
Dave

Dave,
can you scan and post what wire diagram info you have on your harness? I'm sure we could use it in the future to help others.
