small UPDATE
I just got off the phone with Richard at Halibrand.
Our complete list of characters "is enough" for the run.
He has the coating/coloring process down.
He has a quote from one casting company and awaiting another.
Unfortunately magnesium HAS gone up. Russia and China are huge consumers and suppliers of the stuff. They're busy using it, too. Probably on things faster than a Cobra
We've waited a long time and some more than others. I won't mention names... RODKNOCK
Let's hang in there.

You should have known that was bogus off the top of your head.

C'mon, patrickt. Are you an attorney or a climatologist? Your chart is misleading.
What matters is how much magnesium costs today vs the last time THE WHEELS were produced, not simply displaying the lowering cost of magnesium due to the slowing economy in recent years. Not to mention increased processing costs and increased labor costs. My business in vinyl. Prices skyrocket up and parachute down. Being armed with the current cost of oil doesn't do jack shine to the price I pay.
Currently mg is up 20% from 2001 (when was the last mag run, anyways?). We should compare the cost that M&A bought their magnesium for, compared to what they (or whoever will make them) are paying now, assuming they're FIFO and only have current priced mg on hand. But that's intruding and I don't tell people how to run their business. I suppose if you want to call Richard a liar, just come right out and say it.
What really matters to me is that I (and others) would like magnesium wheels.
You should have known that... off the top of your head

Rodney, Rodney, Rodney... don't get your panties in a wad. Magnesium is under a buck fifty a pound. Even if that's 20% up from 2001, how could that possibly account for any significant increase?

Hey, what about labor prices, depending on where they're made, and the supply/demand equation. Don't forget those factors.

BTW, what does this mean? They should have the process down, since they've making wheels for at least 50 years.
What colors and coatings are there or will there be? Of course, besides the Dow light gold.

Rodknock,
The coatings (Richard even called it pickling once) has apparently changed over the years. I don't know the details but he isn't using the old stuff, for whatever reason. I'm speculating here but old processes could possibly be banned, not available or simply not be the best solution anymore. Or maybe he likes torturing us?
So far there has only been mention of gold and 'none' (special request) for colors. Any other color requests or should I publish a Pantone list?
WARNING - Special Requests of any type may have an impact on lead times and costs. Plus Shipping and Handling. Local taxes may apply. Batteries not included (that one was for patrickt's LED brakelights).

BTW, post #1 in this thread still holds up pretty well.

But for the fact that you're listed as #1. Otherwise, it works for me.

My bad. I meant to say that person #1 on the list is holding up pretty well.
