Real 1

AC make aloominummm bodies and chazzies in their 'new' building near Guildford. Brooklands M.C., as already stated by the man hisself, offer their support and back-up where required. They can indeed bend the metal and restore a Cobra from the ground up. They have been doing so for some time but sans publicity and also specialize in Aston Martins amongst others. But the 1000-series rollers come from 'AC'.

Hmmm. Ok. But did Brooklands do the body or panels for CSX 1000.

Trevor: What is the state of ol' AC in Guildford and their facilities, number of laborers? Whats their production numbers per month or do they just build to order? Whats their state of... eh emmm... "health"?

Brooklandspeed: Demise of 4027 refers to the undoing of a very accurately detailed 427 Comp continuation Cobra owned by a friend of mine when a new owner made certain ill advised changes. I think it may have since been put right again by the Shelby people.

Flashback to 1996:

The Angliss/AC Cars aluminum COX rollers made at Brooklands and imported in '95 and '96 by Dave Wagner went for about $48,000 US. Now they are $100,000.

The Kirkham rollers were going for $60,000, now they are $45-ish...or less.

Wow, what a difference 9 years makes.........huh?

The current price list for Shelbys are $135K for an AC sourced Continuation Shelby and $92.5K for a Kirkham sourced Continuation Shelby.

Kirkham sourced continuation Shelbys started several years ago for $67.5K. Then they jumped to $78K. Then to $82K. Now $92.5K.

Even three years can make a difference. Wow!

Interesting how all of the SAI bangers cannot admit that the SAI cars keep moving up while the KMP cars keep moving down. Oh well, some people are just hard headed....

I don't have any question in my mind that Shelby's will move up in value over time (even the HST model that I have ordered). The question I have is when will I see my roller. There are about 70 of us in this very predicament and things are still very slow. Maybe 5 glass cars have been delivered in the last 6 months.

Having already built an engine, my choices are to cancel my order and buy a Kirkham that I suspect depreciates $10-15K after my build. Or do I roll the dice and hope to get my Shelby built at some point and see $10K or so of appreciation in the near term. Maybe if HST gets running, Shelby's will flow out and the value gets diluted a bit (at least on the fiberglass end). I think either of the choices will result in a great car from a driving perspective, but the Shelby should provide a better return if I ever need to sell the car (which I hope never happens).

Ron: True. But higher new prices don't hurt the resale values of existing finished CSXs either. In fact they may help. The new prices are for painted rollers. Expect another $35K to $45K added on for a finished dealer prepped car (depending on engine build) for a total of $135K or more depending on options plus 6 month wait for the delivery plus 3 month wait for dealer to finish. .... All said expect $135K to $140K before applicable taxes after a 9 month wait out the door.

Premo well finished existing CSXs might start looking pretty good to a buyer looking for one. When CS is gone one day they may start looking even better. Especially ones signed by him.

Just thinking out loud. Sorta.

Speculating on glass Shelbys? Maybe we can contact the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and see if we can get them listed as a futures contract.

All joking aside, I have never seen or heard where the Kirkham family has delayed an order without a credible explanation. You go with people who have a strong foundation and bend over backwards to make their customers happy. We all know who that is----and who that isn't.

Pssst ROOON,

I was not talking about resale, maybe you are just having a hard time reading or understanding, take the KMP goggles off for once.

Mark, it is up to you but I would never buy a KMP car. You are better off buying a used SPF. I personally think you will see your car, how soon I do not know but I think it is worth the wait.

I keep seeing people talk about how the value of Shelbys go up, and the value of Kirkhams go down. Where is this info coming from? I've not seen any proof of that. I inquired about several CSX4000 cars, both aluminum and glass that I found for sale. In every case, the owner had been trying to sell the car for quite a long time, and had gotten to the point of asking considerably less then he had invested in building the car. That doesn't sound like going up in value to me. And the aluminum 4000 cars I've seen sell publically, have sold in the 110-120k range. Again, it probably cost more to build that car than what they sold for. So I don't see any huge value rise there. I also see these same cars for sale for LONG periods of time. Considering how Shelby has dropped the ball on production, you'd think those cars would be getting eaten up left and right, but they aren't. So in my opinion, the 4000 cars are holding their value, not rising in value.

Now these "1000" series cars, are a new ball of wax. Nobody can put a value on them since there's only a few made. The 1000 series is no better than an aluminum 4000 series. It's just a marketing tool. It's a way for Shelby to offer something closer to "original". No Cobra that wasn't built in the 60s will ever be original. Just because AC makes the body, doesn't make the car worth anymore money than a Kirkham bodied Shelby. It's still a NEW car, built in 2005. It's just another gimmick.

CSX1002 is on ebay right now. Trac (pronounced Trace) is asking 155k for it. Let's see if it gets sold for that. My guess is no, but we'll see. Trac also sold that 1 of 3 carbon fiber car. I spoke with him in length about it. That car was sold as delivered- a brand new untouched roller from Shelby. He sold it for what he paid for it. That doesn't sound like any rise in value either, and this was a car that's 1 of 3!!

As for Kirkhams dropping in value, I can't even recall ever seeing any for sale. Where does this statement come from?

Let's see.... The owner of this site has a Kirkham. The main moderators have Kirkhams. A friend of mine who works for Shelby said he's not buying a Shelby, he's buying a Kirkham. I cancelled my CSX order to buy a Kirkham.

That sure sounds like "value" to me.
