Hey Baz,
Came up behind a BMW M3 today...they have LED blinkers !!! Just like the rule to make you put the speedo in front of the steering wheel.....No reasonable explanation ! Just do it.

G'day Rob,

Apologies for my ignorance on this - what's wrong with LED indicators? And my understanding of the ADR for speedometer location is that it only has to be on the right hand side of the centre line of the car, so only by even 1mm should be acceptable? Am I wrong with this too? please can you please help me out?

Cheers,

Treeve

Pretty sure my outlander has led indicators. They are fine provided they are e marked. I have been looking at gauge placement recently. The adr specifies zones. My interpretation is it needs to be right of centre, but not in the blind spot created by the wheel. Bmw had to swap the tacho and speedo on the mini to comply.

Wouldnt the leds would need to be wired in such a way so if an indicator died the lights would flash faster?

Yes, that may be the main sticking point with LED lamps.
Is there a specific flash can to suit them available?

Yep, they need a specific can as the current draw is much lower than incandescent bulbs.

So what are the Clubbie guys doing about the implementations of the ADR's in NSW?

G'day Merv,
What would you like to know? There are quite a few interplaying issues and solutions; each relevant to specific ADR's. Drop me a PM if you like.

That's the point...A single bulb 'blinker' when it fails will make the others flash faster...how many joe publics know that ? A L.E.D. 'blinker' is made up of many tiny "bulbs" one failure would hardly be noticed and the way we baby the vehicle it would be picked up pretty quickly.....as well in the yearly inspection. With a life of thousands of hours it would take years for a L.E.D. indicator to completely fail. common sense lost

Watched an Audi Q7 parking the other day...two LED's out on the right hand side rear cluster. How many have to fail before it becomes a defect?

Cheers

I was actually interested in how they were organised as a group, if at all, on these new issues facing them and us.

Basically, we got together on the forum...

We also have a private discussion (through invitation only) that covers a decent sized lump of the forum, but only through peer approval can someone get entry. This allows us to touch on thorny issues without fear that 'big brother' may read them and remember who said what...

There's a couple of different professions, and several people have come up with different ideas on how to propose solutions. I had stated a few times that it would be easier for us to discuss how to pass particular ADR's rather than look at ways to avoid them. The guys seemed to get on board with this.

Suthol and Zedn's approach to this forum (which has now included me) is a natural growth from the Clubbie group into probably like-minded individuals in similar situations. We're hoping we can help you as much as you can help us.

Cheers,

Treeve

Thanks Treeve. We need all the help we can get. It seems that coordinated action is the only real way forward on these important issues for clubbies and cobras. Many of us who have already built and registered cars are willing to help those currently building. Individuals are unlikely to have as much success. Keep us posted and ask when your are wanting support for any submissions.

I sat with Liam in his garage and shared a few beers shooting the breeze, talking about how we're going to build our cobras, steering, wheels, engine, then about emissions etc.

He's a passionate guy just trying to build his dream and then have the privilege of driving it on the road... Seems like a pipe dream at the moment based on the current regs, but may be, just may be, if enough guys get on board it can become a reality.
