i have got the handbrake all mounted and working as well as started to put the insulation into the cabin area . another job crossed off the whiteboard next is the battery mount still deciding if i should mount it under the dash as per the built manual or behind the passengers seat . will bolt the seat and roll bar in and see what room there is that may be the deciding factor .
then will mount the wiper motor in place and next will be the engine and box going in ..
getting there bit by bit .
cheers dean

ok i had a re think on the handbrake and have mounted it on the top of the trans tunnel...for a couple of reasons 1 i have to raise the trans tunnel to accommodate the auto shifter set up and when thats raised it will be harder to lean over to reach the handbrake lever.i used the handbrake cables from the ve commodore i got the engine and g\box from credit goes to sam for showing me how he did his :-)
2 i prefer it on the top i know it's not correct as per a original cobra but heck neither is the LS engine lol... the other thing ive done is put some pinchweld on places where the body will sit . getting there bit by bit .

All the nutserts that are in my chassis. I have put two small TIG tacks on them. Just in case they decide to spin, years down the track when the bolt has corroded up a bit.

Actually, correct location for the handbrake is on the RHS of the tunnel (for both LHD and RHD originals), but can't argue against your logic there Deano

not much new to report on the actual built as ive been flat out with the race car and doing some weekends away racing the cobra has taking a back seat for a while .
however my application to build a icv and vin number has been supplied from the dept of road transport and at a quick glance nothing out of the ordinary from what i can see. i will have a more in depth read of it later tonight
cheers dean

Sounds great Dean. No stopping you now. Looking forward to watching more of your progress.
We might be able to compare notes soon....just saying :-)
Cheers

You have your vin number already? That means you have one year to finish it or you have to apply again. Mine is booked in for the final inspection on wednesday. Do you know what to expect? It's a 80 minute inspection. I have a brake bias adjuster knob under the dash, it's one thing I know they might not like.

It's no big deal at all. I have renewed mine twice now, and it's just a matter of ringing Regency Park, and they do it over the phone. You don't have to reapply....it's just a renewal.

Cheers,
Glen

edit: ....and it doesn't cost anything

deano59 02-24-2017 10:42 PM

yes they made a mistake on my paper work i have 30 nov 1015 to complete my build i think i will ringing them monday morning lol

Jaydee 02-28-2017 04:12 AM

Silly thing that when you have the engine number checked, then they give you 3 months until you have to get that checked again. So tomorrow I have to get the engine number checked again in a different place, put it back on the trailer and drive it around the corner to the main inspection place. And you can't book the Engine number inspection, so you don't know how long you might have to wait for that.
JD
P.S. Wish me luck.

deano59 05-18-2017 09:35 PM

put the rest of the shrouding around the radiator this morning just trying to fig out if I can mount the trans cooler in place now or leave it the body is on I think I will wait after pondering over it for a while . also put the roll pins in the steering hub as well ..that's it for the day time to do some work on the race car for a while

well the motor and trans are now joined as one was waiting on a new set of arp flex plate bolts to arrive so the motor is almost ready to drop into the chassis at long last then let the fun begin setting up the shifter mechanism..getting there slowly the guys at the local bolt shop know me so well I think there going to name there next child after me ..don't take any notice of the rocker covers there going to be replaced with some old school sbc style you can get for the LS donk nowdays and will mount the coilpacks prob inside the car on the firewall ..

Modena 06-14-2017 06:43 AM

Good stuff deano. When I was building, the wife got totally used to me saying at 9am on a Saturday "I'm going to the bolt shop" to which she would always reply "AGAIN!!!!" lol
