Default Nats 2015

Firstly thanks again to the NSW CCC for putting on a great event. It ran super smoothly and was very well organised. I did try to get around to thank the Marshals etc on Sunday but sadly couldn't get to everyone so THANK YOU to those I missed!

It was great to see and say gidday to all the interstate crew particularly Gav, Serpnt, BJSnake, Tenrocca, LJ47...the list goes on. The weather was great and a super good vibe throughout.

WP has a few new rules that are being enforced like camping behind the sheds (not sure how long that's gonna last) as well as noise but Sam and the WP team were still very friendly and accommodating..

For me...... well it was another year of disappointment. For the first time in 6 years I made it passed the Friday practice without a breakage, got to the S&S and then 1/2 way through the Sat sprint lap I blew a diff. AGAIN. My 5th and last! Then after working till 10pm Sat night to fix it, looks like Ive done a GB as well with the car back in the trailer Sunday morning.

So, I'm past having a DNF reputation all the time at every event I do so the car has been pushed in the corner of my shed and I'm starting to save for all new running gear. I'll change the rear end and I'll change the 4sp to a 6sp. Sadly, I wont have the $'s at this stage to do it and attend the events in QLD next year but Ive set a goal to have it done and installed by next years Nats.

See you next year.

hi Spooky,

That explains why I couldnt track you down on Saturday... 5th rear end..!! How can that possibly happen..??

Have you checked your alignment on the GB and the diff, tail shaft play and balance, considered using synthetic oils and a cooler..? What diff casing / internals are you running..??

Look forward to seeing you at next years event.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris, in simple terms... an M3 LSD isn't designed for 320 wide slicks and largish HP with the shock loads that a 4speed dog box can create. Its all about the meat around the pinion and there just isn't enough with the rear end ratio I need to run. Matt

Labour Day (NSW) in 2017 is October 2, and Cobra Nationals Holiday (VIC) is Sept 29.

So it would be Friday Sept 29 to Monday Oct 2 2017.

GAV, great little snippet there. Ash got skunked on some gas for his air jacks the day he was to leave QLD so I grabbed it for him and brought it down to the NATS.... as mates do....

As a special thanks Mr TOWMASTER decided after I'd strapped on my helmet that he'd cupcake one of his farts and throw it into my open visor before I headed out to break something! Little "B(*&^STARD! Suffice to say about 10 people in the shed saw him do it and they ALL pi$$ed themselves. Huh!

(Towy thanks for giving Darryl a ride in ya car. He was stoked.)

Had a look at the car yesterday, took off the wheels and gave them a wash. No damage visible underneath which is great.

Both my front tyres have rather large flat spots on the outer. 180kmh spin into the kink will do that!

I do have a question though, what is the best way to de-bug a Cobra radiator???? I was thinking of leaving the sprinkler on it for 20 mins and using a soft brush?

I used to soak with windscreen washer additive, then blow through from the rear with a bit of air, then rinse, but probably need a bit more scrubbing to get it really clean.
Driving through the high plains at night in the old LX used to reduce the Bogong moth population significantly.

The best stuff....... everyday dishwashing liquid. Just soak, for a while and then wash off with hose.

What a cool weekend! Had so much fun! Well done to John White on King Cobra, absolutely dominant this weekend! Also a well done to all the class winners, times and records were smashed by a lot of people this year.

Thanks to the Cobra clubs from around Australia for supporting the event, NSW club for organising it and also all the volunteers for their help so we can go racing.

Great to catch up with everyone again, always a fantastic weekend filled with fun and laughs.

Lastly, thanks to Dad for giving me a steer. I know i'm hard on the equipment and to be honest i'm not sure how the car stands up to the double punishment that we both give it!

Here are some videos...

My best super sprint lap over the weekend (1:05.3)

Dad's best super sprint lap of a 1:07.3

I try not to! Either way, he is used to it now and the 2 second margin has become the new benchmark for him!

Your times are steadily improving so if he's maintaining the same margin that means he's improving too.

I think it's awesome that you both can share the fun.

Cheers
