What would be good if we published a basic roller price from all the current suppliers, I bet there would be a few suprises....

I had a number of conversations with Burnie and then headed down for a visit with the car.
It was one of the easier parts of my build.

Give me a couple of weeks and I will have some indicative numbers for 3 or 4 suppliers.

I am looking to find out cost of chassis and body. Then the kit to complete the car ready for motor/gearbox. The variability in the prices is unlike pace which supply everything you have options of new versus secondhand parts from donor car, wreckers etc. then you need to factor in refurbishing the secondhand part if that's the path taken, how much In house fabrication is doable will vary from owner to owner. Cockpit fitout will also have some variability as it's possible to do it all your self or pay some one to do bits or the whole lot etc etc.

Nevertheless I want to understand what you get for what you pay for and then assess how well that is presented, no point saving a couple of grand only to use up what you save in chasing bits all over the place or trying to reengineer something because the part is unavailable or incorrectly specified. How good is the supplied manual, what access to support(talk is cheap, customer feedback invaluable) is there etc ect

Try looking for a half finished project. It has saved me heaps of money. I have a CR and love it so far. Plenty of leg room. Laid up fiberglass. Very solid. JD

hey JD, i will do a spreadsheet on preferred suppliers and see what its gong to cost me and then see what the options are out there. Do you have a build thread running etc. What are your thoughts on support from CR and what donk you running. some pictures would be great, keep us posted of how the journey is going.

Saw my first aluminium bodied cobra today and it looked fantastic. Not sure I could justify it for my first time?

Hey Dimis, had a brief glimpse of your old shiny thing today, very impressive. Look forward to seeing the whole car, will pop in on a Saturday and hopefully catchup then.

Had a good chat with Martin today, there are a lot of Cobras in various stages of builds. Walked away from there trying to decide why you wouldn't do a Kenmer. Access to up to ten other Cobras being built at the same time, free use of the equipment, u pay for what u use.
Approx 1100kg finished weight, ford 302windsor, 5.4l and 5.0l coyote engines all seen today installed.
I can buy the basic kit and essentially build it on site from start to finish, with an expert tradesman/toolmaker/engineer available for advice.
Bbq and beers every Saturday, does it get any better than this!

Anyway back to my spreadsheet, lol

The build manual for a CR is basic. I have only rung Ian 3 times I think.
I'm just making it up as I go along. You'll never be able to work out the total cost. Your forever going out and buying nuts and bolts, stainless, carpet, ali, paints, insulation, exhaust bits. My god the list doesn't end. But the end is near. I'm nearly ready to fuel up and start it. I'll try to get all my pictures into my gallery. I found it tricky last time I tried. Your welcome to visit any time.

I was led to believe the CR manual was comprhensive with every part required listed with its associated OEM number. This would allow a call to the wreckers or purchased new from OEM. How old is your kit jaydee? How was your manual Gregg?

Rang the engineer yesterday, not back until Monday!

Hoity the Pace manual is comprehensive. The CR manual was comprehensive until the Pace manual came out and reset the bar.

I did not realize Martin was offering workspace and tools to build his kits.
For someone in a small shed, this is a fantastic offer.
And to have the kit supplier and or other builders nearby sure would help to "nut out" and options.

600 pages is fairly reasonable.....lol. I read the Pace manual on the flights home from work....1- it's super detailed, 2- Helps me fall asleep in a blink...

I can only speak for the early square tube manual, it seems good at first, but when you are actually into the build, it isnt real flash.
It does supply info regarding what donor parts to get, and part numbers, I think there was even some bolt tension specs in there.
I suppose it will all depend on how much assistance you need, and also the older builds (multiple donor/supplier vehicles) there is a large scope for variations.
But a kit like the Pace or I guess the F5 cars, because all the items are the same, it is a bit more like a production line product, so variations are much less, so it can say "run wiring loom along right sill and through 32mm hole into engine bay" but a more donor kit may just say "run wiring harness from cabin through firewall and into engine bay" (you need to figure out the how and where)
It is comprehensive, but not specific.
