Wiper Motor
Have installed the wiper motor and wiring but everytime I turn on the power fuse goes. Any ideas why. Have checked and re-checked the wiring and seems to be OK. Also, what car is the wiper motor from?

What amp fuse are you using? Wiper motor is standard Lucas wiper motor.

CR assembly manual wiring schematic is wrong! The park switch, as described, shorts to ground, and blows the fuse. Finishline sent me the correct schematic for it. The ground connection at the park switch needs to be disconnected.
Off at the wiper switch is always hot. It connects to the park switch. When the wipers are turned off, power from the wiper switch is routed to the wiper motor slow wire. When the park switch is disengaged, the wipers are parked, and the power to the motor is turned off. Only the motor is grounded.
The park switch is not very sturdy either, and cannot be purchased separately. The entire $$$ motor has to be purchased.
I'm designing a microswitch operated park to go on the opposite end of the wiper rack tube to install next time I take the dash off.

Don,
Look at the motor, you will see one of the wires is blue. Disconnect it from the plug and take it to ground. That's it, it should work fine.

That IS the biggest change to the manual we will be making, and that is the wiring! Especially the wiper section
DV...Keep at it, you'll make the DVSF IV yet!

Jack, and all present and future CR's owners, this is all you have to do to the wiper to get it to work correctly, and to park automatically!
This is just a blow up of the little white connection block on the wiper itself:

All the wiring is going to change. Classic found out about 6 years ago that Packard Bell was not going to produce the connectors anymore. In the usual way they did nothing about it until it was too late. I have been trying to reproduce the old harness with new type connectors but it can't be done. I looked at all the available wiring on the market and decided to use American Autowire. The harness uses the good heat resistant wire and is labled for every function on the wire. So the right tail light wire says "right tail light" the entire length of the wire. I am going to have a few mods done to fit the CR but for now it's a 12 circuit panel. No more all white wires, no more numbers. Should be a nice addition to the car.

Don IS making sure that all the old bugs will be gone!
Don S., if you want and have a fax machine available, call me or supply me your fax number and I will fax you a copy of a labeled fuse box.

I forgot to mention that I put a copy of the fuse block label in my gallery.

Don and DV:
Thanks for the fuse box info. The new wiring harness sounds to good to be true. In the mean time still no tail or running lights. Have decided to have a mechanic or a magicion come over to the house and try and figure it out. Will keep you posted.

DV,
Referring to your diagram above, do you mean to suggest that we clip the wires from the white connection block on the wiper motor and connect to the CR harness as instructed? My harness has individual wires with open eyelet terminals at each end.
Thanks!

Dwain, you need the park switch so you don't want to cut any wires. You just need to remove the blue wire from the back of the switch connector and run it directly to ground. Then hookup the wires as the manual tells you. You will need to clip the ends from the Classic harness and splice in longer wires to reach the motor. You can also pickup the smaller spade connectors you need to attach to the motor at NAPA.

Hey Don!
My wiper motor has only three wires!
Blue, red and yellow.
The terminal layout is slightly different as well with the blue terminal perpendicular above the other four.
Now what?
Thanks!

Dwain, That is correct, blue, yellow, red. Remove the blue and ground it. Hookup the rest of the switch the way the manual tells you without the ground going to the switch.

Thanks, Don, but DV's diagram show red going to #148; the two bottom terminals (the ones farthest away from the blue terminal), one of which is yellow, jumped together and connected to #149; and the an ORANGE termial connecting to #123.
I don't have an orange wire/terminal AND my red and yellow terminals are opposite from what DV shows.
I'm confused (or blind or just dense)
Thanks for your help!

Dwain, don't worry about the colors. The only one to remove is the blue wire. Hook up the rest to the park switch on the motor the way the manual shows.

Oooo-k, bear with me...
I'm still missing something...
The only thing I've accomplished is removing the blue wire from the connection block and connecting it to ground.
The manual says, "...Run the 3 individual wires over to the wiper motor and connect #123 to the wiper motor (doesn't say where), #148 to the high speed (how is high speed identified?) and #149 to the low speed."
How do I connect 3 wires to 2 terminals?
I appreciate your patience!

Dwain, on page 6-7 of the manual there is a diagram of the park switch that shows where to hook up the 3 wires from the classic harness. The switch uses small spade connectors so you will need to pick some up @ NAPA. The 3 wires from the classic harness are probably too short so you will need to extend them and crimp on the smaller spades. 1 of the wires goes to 2 terminals so you will need to make a small jumper between them.
