AH HA --now I see what your doing---sorry if I led anyone astray
|
To all CR owners and others:
I hope Jerry and I didn't confuse anyone on the roll bar issues. First let me say I have seen many (to many) Cobras roll from Autocrossing to the Run N Gun. I have never seen a roll bar fail-period. (Good for us). The only real problem and I know they have fixed it was a SuperFormance Cobra at Run N Gun & it could have happened to almost any Cobra out there but it happened to be theirs. The gentlemen flipped his Cobra with a 3-point roll bar resulting in a very, very serious fire. This gentlemen was burned severly and required months of recovery in a hospital. Basically the Cobra flipped, was held up by the 3-point bar but that makes ALL similar Cobras do the same thing...they slide with the right rear fender grinding on the pavement, in this case it ripped off his Racing OEM (On some manufacturers standard equipment) Lemans fuel cap allowing all the gas to run out immediately. I will tell you SPF instantly fixed this problem by using a screw in gas cap that fit under the Lemans cap to avoid any other disasters like this from happening, or at least making it extremely unlikely. The point is if you have a three point bar and a right rear fender mounted Lemans gas cap retrofit with an internal gas cap! This is for your safety and I think should be mandatory for all the gas caps. I'm proud to say I/my company was the first Cobra known to use a screw in cap under the Lemans cap-even befor the mentioned fire!) As far as size of the roll bar tubing Jerry is right, his type material meets all NHRA,SCCA,IHRA, and Autocrossing requirements*. Ed and I choose to go a little heavier with a new mounting technique is all. (*for cars running 11.00 or more seconds at any NHRA or IHRA event.) The name of the game has been and always will be, "Be safe out there!". DV |
Well said Ed.
|
DV,
On the back down tubes, (the ones that run into the fender well) what if they were bolted in like the front down tubes are? I.E. A plate welded onto the tube and then bolted on from the bottom with a piece of angle plate bolted onto the frame. Terry |
Terry,
You'd have to make a 3 sided box or a "U" welded onto the frame then two bolts through the plate (welded to the down tube) through the "U" bracket. Sounds good to me! Better than the original set up indeed. OR exactly like the top that mounts to the frame rail only this time your welded on upside down "U" would be a seat for the down tube and bolt in from the bottom up into the tube. Good idea! DV |
does anyone know of a place I can get a ragtop for my cobra CRII
|
Hey DV!!!!
Any new updates? I should be at your place around 11am on the 30th. See you then!!!! |
cpteddie,
Just body work-boring stuff. Still waiting for the steel, the motor frame mount, blah, blah blah. But, see ya the 30th! DV. |
Flatred,

Tcrist top
Terry,
If you still have it a little down the road I will get back in touch with you. Probably need to know over a service station:eek:. Just kidding. All I need to do is talk my wife out of some her horsey money. Probably spring time. Either way, don't hold it but let's stay in touch. Jim |
Just got back from DVs
Lots of progress. We're getting down to the finish line :3DSMILE: Here's a couple of quick pics. After finding out that my high rise manifold would not clear the hood. It was swap it out at the expense of some torque or turn DV loose with with his air saw and great glassing skills. It still needs some finale finishing to get all the lines and angles matching, but it came out great. :D http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...e_scoope_1.jpg Here's a shot of the drivers side. The roll bar is one of the last "work-in-progress items" this one is the template for the final bar. The down tubes are not on yet. Also you can see how DV had to enlarge the side vent opening to fit my "cough cough" expensive Australian side louvers  http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...ers_side_1.jpg Here's one of the engine nicely tucked in with the body on http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...ine-body_1.jpg And last.... Anybody looking for a nice high quality 2" roll bar. Check out the single hoop bar DV has in the bender. ( Sorry I didn't get the whole bar :( ) I wasn't focusing on the bar/bender, but I can get better pics on the next visit. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...ube_bender.jpg |
Hey DV!!!
As always... Really great seeing you and our baby :3DSMILE: I'll give you an update tomorrow on the list of things you need me to get. Here's that 408 badge I was telling you about. I'll order a pair and drop ship them to you. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3160/...e5bb45.jpg?v=0 Cheers!!! |

Are you using the stock bumperettes? Do you already have them? If not I might have a set. I am thinking about putting quickjacks on mine. Terry |
