Geesh, we are already over 2' ! Michigan ski lodges are setting all new records one after the other for the earliest starts they have ever had!

The bumper tubes were waiting for me when I got home tonight. Very, very, very nice :3DSMILE: They look great!!!! Nice job!!! |
Any sign of those new bender dies, DV? If not. I'll give them a call in a couple of hours.
Here's a quick list of what I'm bringing over after the first of the year. 1) new wider rear tires 2) a sheet of mesh screen for the front vent inlets 3) template for the speakers 4) 1 more 2" roll bar bezels. You have 3. I picked up the 4th. Anything else we need? Cheers! |
Not that I can think of. UPS halted all delivery's in our section of the State (massive snow) until yesterday. Looked like Christmas yesterday but no dies. Maybe today?

Case of the 'ANTI-SPINNING' Cobra Air cleaner
How many of the large Cobra air cleaners that I have installed all "spin" under load knicking up the paint on the inside of the hood intake?
Well, not any more! I think cpteddie will even be surprised by this one. Phase one: Holley mounted carb, remove the bolts and the studs holding them on, use a 5/16's threaded rod, locktite the rod and the new "flange nuts" in place: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...th_studs_B.jpg Phase Two: 3/8's aluminum tubing (fueline) cut to fit the studs- Must look pretty when done :) . http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...d_covers_C.jpg Phase three: Studs covered, base plate attached with "flange nuts". http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...ds_covered.jpg Phase Four: The end of the headache of the Spinning Air Cleaner- you can take both hands and try and get it to swing- "Ain't gonna happen!" $5.00 in material-one hour of time- piece of cake! http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._bolted_in.jpg A long time problem cured- cheap and easy! DV |
How simple why didn't I think of that. I have been fighting this for years.... Thanks for the tip.... Mac

DV, Your experience is showing again. Absolutely brilliant.

DV!!!
Thats even a better solution than what you and I were talking about yesterday. We had discussed just using 2 unused threaded holes in the manifold. Very nice upgrade :3DSMILE: Was good seeing you yesterday!!!! |
My breather is modified to push it back towards the firewall and clear the front lip of the hood opening. I used a single unused threaded hole in the centerline of the back of the manifold. Works great.

I'd leave the nuts off or use nylock nuts. Don't want one of those buggers backing off and getting sucked into the engine.
|
Ronbo, et.al;,
The reason I specified "Flange Nuts" is that they will NOT back off. I guarantee you put one of those on hand tight you will have to use a wrench/socket to get them off! Especially since they are biting into fairly soft aluminum. Nylocks wear out and are only verified for one use. If not serrated flange nuts, the studs have to be at least 3/4" longer. Not a big thing, but I have this thing about blocking air particularly in this instance. No an extra 3/4" stud with a bigger nut will not cut down that much velocity/volume of course, but with four in place it/they could cause a "vortex of air going into the carb" possibly creating a miss or stumble at high speed ? If it should think how long it would take someone to find it? New plugs, plug wires, rebuild the carb, check intake of fuel and passage to the carb, start with the electronics??? To answer a lot of your questions, "these" are true lock nuts & bolt. The heads are solid as well as the flange around the nut. No lock washers are necessary and are more of a hinderence. "Every" nut and bolt that I use in my builds are of this type hardware. Hundreds of cars and thousands of fasteners later I have never had one work loose! http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...-bolt_0031.jpg Just my thoughts... DV |
Well crap DV!!!
Just rechecked tirerack.com and those 295s are only available in 50s. So I guess we'll just run the rubber thats already mounted and switch to something wider in the rear next season. Maybe some MTs or a set of Goodyear BBs. |
OK,
Going to have the new/new ones picked up? Not to worry on the bracket, I will now cut/weld it to fit tight to the new rear firewall. This will give you the room for low profile 17's if you ever choose to go that route! :D Doing final 'glassing & body work on the rear firewall. Overall you have picked up at least four if not five inches front to back! You're not going to grow taller are you? ;) DV |
Yep DV those should work. But since the studs are really there to prevent twisting and they don't hold the top down the nuts aren't really needed. I'm just a little anal about stuff inside the air cleaner.
A rubber base gasket as opposed to the paper one might also stop the twisting. What the heck it's a Cobra, just safety wire it!:3DSMILE: |
