New air cleaner shipped today from Summit. You should probably have it on Monday or Tuesday.

Capteddie,

I have been following this thread for awhile. I have the same aircleaner, looks really good and flows a good amount of air but when driven hard at the track for some reason ti turns clock wise as much as 90*'s. I have tried tightening the nut that holds the cover in place but it still moves. Any ideas you have and experience please pass them on. I am almost at the point of switching the a round extreme k&n with a filter top...Mac

Hey Mac!

Well I have NO previous experience with this style air cleaner. But I would think if you found a large rubber O ring or cut a rubber gasket out of a piece of sheet rubber and placed that between your carb and air cleaner. It might provide enough resistance to keep the cleaner from rotating.

Other than that. I guess I'd have to wait till I get a chance to really drive my car and see what happens.

I also did a quick search and came up with this at Summit
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
Its made of a composite material and I think rubber would give you better resistance. You could use one of these as a template to cut a new one out of sheet rubber.

Cheers!!!

Air Cleaner

Thanks but I have that but the o ring sounds like it might work, thanks for the advise...Mac

Mac,
The answer is to make/get a long plate about a 1/2" wide drill a hole where the top of the Carb bolts are at, use a 3/16 threaded rod, drill a hole through the end of the strip but still under the air cleaner base. then drill a hole for the threaded rod to go through the bottom of the air cleaner, add a lock nut and problem is solved. This is a very common problem with these air cleaners. If you can wait till I get eddies done I'll take some pictures. You can still take off the top to clean the air cleaner element. I'll take a photo or two of what I am talking about. When the top is on, no one is the wiser!

PS Keeps from chipping the inside of your hood paint to!!

Maybe there is something wrong with mine? When it is snugged down it sits atop the float bowl needle adjustment nuts and seems to stay put with the 3 points of contact. I can manually make it turn but it doesn't turn on it's own. No track time experience to report.

Nice timing;
Check out the picture of the SPF # 38 car in the thread "New wheels".Look at the rear of the aircleaner carefully, you will see a second mounting point going to th botom of the Carb or the intake.

"California Mustang has the hi-quality aircleaners that will not rotate during use, Of coure they are $100.00. I'm sure Tony Brandon carries them too.

I'm 48 hours away from going under the knife

Any update or progress report (hint hint...pictures ;)) you can post? Haven't heard much in the last few days and need something to take my mind off Friday.

Did you get the drive shaft in? How about the issue with that super secret starter button I'm using?

Cheers!

Double Venom 09-17-2008 07:12 AM

Eddie,
Drive shaft is here/in. DOM gets here tomorrow. Took a lot of pictures of your hood pre cut, then cut. Nice to have the aircleaner here to make a very close, but not to close . I really think you're going to like it. Right now I think someone will have to look twice to know its beeen modified. I'll try and post pictrures tonight or tomorrow. By the way I even have to modify the inhside for the breathers on both sides!

Cost is to be determined within days, finally the DOM roll bar material is coming in. I can send them unfinished or powder coated, your choice. Cost will be determined as soon as I get the cost of the steel-changes daily because of the Chinese!

Hey DV...

House of Kolor stuff taken care of. (ya, I know we spoke on the phone)

Looking at this picture of the hood cut out. If you can keep the air cleaner centered (top to bottom) in the scoop opening after your modification. Its going to look bad a$$ from the front.

Great job!!! Thanks pal! I'll talk to you sometime around Sunday after I get the my L4L5 disc modified %/
