Default adding power brakes

Bob

How difficult is it to change over to power brakes on my GT40 #2076.

Is this something i could do or does it require a trip to new britain

It's a PITA. We did major surgery on Jose's car. If we can fit a dual booster in the front of the nose, it's "just" a matter of changing a lot of brake lines and running a vacuum pump or a line from the engine. If you want to experiment, I found a mechanical setup that's supposed to reduce pedal pressure by about 35%.

Question Is if possible to go with hydro boost

If the car has power steering hydro boost would work but the brake would be very touchie. Is there a problem with the car stopping? Could you move the linkage on the pedal up or down to change the amount of foot pressure needed to stop the car. Is it possible your bias of front to rear is out of whack. How about larger rotors and wheels like what was on Jim Holdens new GT-40 from Carlisle? That is one nasty looking car. Rick L.

Bob

Why the dual boost. Couldn't you use one boost and a dual cylinder. what would have to be changed to use the reduce pedal pressure setup. Thats my real issue is the pedal pressure. It stops ok but just the peddal pressure. I guess its what we are use to the modern car takes so little peddle pressure to stop

RL
no power steering. The system has two Master cylinders brake setup with a proportioning bar to the pedal, no proportioning valve. I already have large brake disk. Just the pedal pressure is my main complaint

We used a single booster setup on Jose's car. We had to change the entire brake pedal configuration so that a single pushrod ran through the front of the footbox to the booster, which was bolted to a bracket on the front of the footbox. For structural reasons, I didn't like it then, I don't like it now. It also resulted in a large rubber-sealed hole in the footbox for the pushrod.

Bob

thanks for your response. Its not really that bad. I guess i'll just keep things as they are. I don't want to get into a lot of re-engineering. I just thought if it could be done easily i would go for it.

Thanks
PS the car is running stronger than ever. After i replace the rusted the distributor and i now have distributor that advances
it feels like i have all this new found power.

Do you want to experiment?

ECI brake pressure multiplier

You'll need one for the front, one for the rear.

Looks very interesting just put it inline and bleed. It says something about more pedal travel but they don't say how much. A long pedal stroke might be a little unnerving

I'm very interested in it

might be the winter project $320 investment not bad

Have you heard of anyone using it yet???

I'll try to research this

Thanks

Bob do you know the bore diameter of the existing m/c on my car. When i talk to the engineers i'm sure they will ask that question

thanks Bob

i'll keep you posted, so far google searches are not turning up anyone with experience with an actual install. I think its cheap enough to just give it a try

Bob

i just realized they are in Vernon i may take a ride over and see it in person. Hopefully the will have some kind of test display. I'll take the gt40 over there and let them see first hand what i will be dealing with

I am going to talk to Bob about that adapter for my very old ERA Cobra. All I can tell you that the Power Brakes works great on the GT specially with the large brakes. Someday Bob will play with the electric rack.

Lyold GT40... any updates on the ECI Brake Pressure Multiplier.... It does look promising. I was wondering if you had a chance to try them.

Thanks

talk to the engineers, they said wouldn't work. best scenario is small volume calibers work best. His feeling would be too much pedal travel to accomplish what i was looking for. So it looks like working out with left leg muscles

Lloyd,

Thanks for the update. Too bad it's not what we thought. Yeah I guess I'll have to go to option "B" and go with the big brake upgrade and go work on those leg muscles.

Thanks again,
