Q: Is it a real Cobra or one of those “kits”?A: It’s real to me, but yes it is a kit.
If they continue to ask questions, I answer the best I can.
If they act like a you know what, I ignore them, or ask them to move along.
If that doesn’t do, I tell them your chances of seeing a “Real” one at a local car show isn’t going to happen.

In my experience the people who ask if it's "real" already know what a cobra is and are not asking if it's a real car, they are asking if it's an original. My answer to them is "no, it's a replica" or sometimes "no, it's a kit". They always respond with: "It's beautiful man" which makes me smile.

				 Real or not
Scott has a pretty funny response because we get "The Question" all the time.Sometimes phrased as what is the difference, he says "1 more 0".

 | More like “1 more comma.”
I have too much respect for those that own/afford the real ones to diminish their claim to real status. So call mine what you want but it’s not an original therefore not a real one either. Last edited by ACademic; 01-09-2019 at 09:59 AM..

what people are really asking is: can you tell me a bit about your car.
I say it's made by ERA and it's better than the original!

Since I will have this question brought up to me this year, It will be done by late Mar. or early Apr. I've done some thinking, on how to answer this fun, and sometimes funny question. I believe I'll use the answer Joe (Old School Garage owner) When asked about the Cobra. He go's over touches it, and say's yes it is, but not one of the org. one's from the 60's. Cheers Tom. |

I usually respond, "oh no, I wouldn't dare drive a million dollar car around here!" - often accompanied by a short chuckle at the absurdity of the question. |

Me: I'll be repainting this car one day, (only came in one colour, limited run).

Him: What colour?

Me: Do you know what this is? (Idiot, plus a few other words under breath).

When someone asks me if it's real I usually just say "It's real fast" They get a laugh out of it and we both move on. |

Yup, I don't take offense to the question. Like others have said, most suspect it is not one of the original REAL Cobra's. I tell them with a chuckle No but I had a lot to do with building this one. Conversation will follow one of two ways.. "Man that's beautiful, always wanted one" smile and wave goodby. or "who made it?" what engine? how fast does it go? Do you race it? Can you start it up?......

I tell em, “No it’s not. I could never afford a real one. I would be afraid to cut loose and have fun in an original like I do in my FFR. |

It depends on how I feel at the time and who's asking the question. Sometimes I just say yes sometimes I just smile sometimes I say no you're having the best dream you've ever had in your life.

I simply say "she is a very faithful reproduction built in 1992, with period correct drivetrain and parts. However the body is fiberglass and the frame is of an improved design. And she is a joy to drive."
Usually that brings miles of smiles....

I get just as many shout out questions - "What year is that?" Not sure if they want to know when it was built, or what it represents?

The most often question that I get asked is "What kind of car is that?"
Since it's the easiest way to extricate myself from any conversation, I always tell them "it's a Jaguar. XK-(make up a number)something."

It's about as close as you can get and still enjoy driving it.
