What ever you do, don't buy a Hoover upright. I believed Consumers Report on the POS and bought one for about $260. It lasted 3 mos untill the gear driven beater bars jammed. Was going to cost nearly $200 to get it fixed. I tossed it in the dumpster and bought a RIccar which is American made and never misses a beat.

I went to Sears and bought the cheapest Kenmore model they had and it has lasted for over three years an no problems. I have a small hand vac made by Knemore that I use in the cars and I have had it for almost 8 years an no problems. I figured if the cheap Kenmore house vac goes bad I can buy another one now as long as it has lasted and not mess with the expensive warranties.
