NOS Chrome ones for me... (of course, they are not for me, BUT, if it were mine...) That's gonna be a sick ride!

There's an awful lot of shine on that wheel, Jeff:eek:... better get after giving it the treatment!

Speaking of which, can you give us a photo study of before and after on the wheel treatment?

1985 CCX 02-25-2013 11:59 AM

Paul

I may not "Mag Look" the spare so I can be sure to keep it as a spare. What are the thoughts in the field?

Nice and Shiny: (probably look this way with brake dust)

Treated so with brake dust will get the "Mag Look" as it will darken and have oxidized texture.

Dirtier the better. Shiny always looks too primped for a racer.

Tutosnake 02-25-2013 07:04 PM

Mag Look, for sure. I agree your car has such a comp look, it calls for the mag look.

Jeff, I am working on getting a set of FIA (repro) wheels painted gold for my car. Have you considered painting your wheels in GOLD? I think it would make for a KILLER look on you car IMO...just a thought.

Whatever you end up doing, I can tell you your finished car first day view is one of the most anticipated events of 2013:D

Saw a set of Halibrands once that had been sand blasted. No polish at all. Had a real vintage comp look to it.

I am all about the vintage look.
I did contemplate the gold color, as original wheels were dipped in Dow gold material. thought may be a bit much gold on gold.....

*13* 02-27-2013 07:45 AM

I may agree. Seems like it would be a lot of gold. There are some good pictures here on the site somewhere of FIA Mags with that "Broken In" look. I'll take a look later on & see if I can find them

Bill D 02-27-2013 08:15 AM

Let them sit outside in the elements for a month

1985 CCX 03-01-2013 06:40 AM

Bill

That would do as well, I think I captured the vintage look on the four main wheels. Want to be sure to designate spare as different.

Cool! Where did you get the rear inner cockpit fenders?
Larry

Weber horns always remind me of hungry little baby birds. Lookin' great! Did you get the Cobra Bellhousing? I didn't see how that auction ended.

1985 CCX 03-03-2013 05:42 PM

Larry

I had them made (Panel Craft) then I fit with trim-fit-trim-fit method in my garage. They still required cutting to fit and hammering to get right shape to frame. Lots of work.

Never did get the bellhousing, using a Ford unit for now. Hard to find a good 5 bolt housing for less that a small child. Guess the price of playing is always hard for me to trigger on that peice.

Thanks for the looks guys.........

*13* 03-03-2013 06:27 PM

Yeah, the price was pretty steep.

Did you make your own fuel log?

*13* 03-04-2013 07:33 AM

I Bought & cut all the pieces. I took them to a fab shop to have them welded up. Kind of a PITA to do it that way but, it ended up working out. I think I got a the tubing from McMaster Carr, if I remember correctly.

1985 CCX 03-04-2013 11:35 AM

I designed a custom one for my car, might have Comp Classic MFG.

Just scored this for the buggy.................
