Nice!

Just an FYI on the wheel "aging", you can get a closer to original appearance using a combination of citrus juices and aluminum wheel cleaner. To darken them up, believe it or not, but a mixture of the above mentioned citrus and tea leaves (and dark soil mixed in) gives it a darker, more natural appearance.

Got that one from a fellow who does set design for a large group of the Florida film production companies......

Bill

Actually done that sorta kinda, the flash on camera made it look lighter than they really are. Mine are almost dead on to the original rim shown on previous page.

Thanks for the hint though...... Brake dust will work wonders.....

Always looking for the de-restoration look.

WOW color wise very good! But when you have them side by side the shape of the wheels are not even close. Did they make more than one style Fia wheel? Mark

Just went to look at some pics and I see there is more than one style.

Early FIA's had a flange or lip for wheel weights, they are different. Great eye grasshopper....... :3DSMILE:

krausewich 03-07-2013 07:56 PM

Interesting...
I noticed the 'collar like' shape between the spokes.
I've never seen a set of FIA's like that before.

Awesome work on the aging !!

What did they use for center caps back then? I've seen red also.

1985 CCX 03-08-2013 11:27 AM

Hyde

They used steel center caps, round as pictured, both red and yellow. Why did they color? Good question??

I have not found caps to match and fit my Shelby hubs, just going with std ally versions.............

Oh, I thought they were plastic all this time. Maybe I'll paint mine! I think red would look nice on my car. Red or yellow might work on yours.

1985 CCX 03-08-2013 02:48 PM

I was going to do red.............

Note that early comp cobras used rubber balls for hub plugs. They are not aluminum or steel.

1985 CCX 03-11-2013 12:19 PM

Mike

I stand corrected..............
Never saw rubber ball, sounds like a Shelby thing. I have only seen metal painted, maybe the balls were needed for the 289..... :p
