Just about all the suspension parts, brakes etc are Shelby. They are off a CSX 4000 car I had a few years back. I have replaced all bearings, bushings, seals and new powder coating etc. Thanks Streetbeast. Now we start on the rear end. First up install the upper control arms. |
rear lower

The rear lower control arms are a bit more involved to get right before install, here we have new bearings, pressed in new bushes, then ream the bushes to fit then install new seals. I made up new stainless shafts that connect the rear up right to the lower control arms as well.

rear uprights

Here I have assembled the rear uprights, machined the spacers for the top pick up points, trailing arms pick up points and coil overs. Then installed the upright with the brake rotors, pin drive hub and coil overs etc.
Just about ready to get it down and on its own feet. |
Brake / Clutch pedals

I picked up a set of the Kirkham brake pedals in the garage sale they where having some time back so I made a small mod, since this car is not a Kirkham I decided to change them up a little.
Then installed them to the frame. |
On the ground

The frame is on the ground, still have to do a couple of small things but for the most part frame and suspension ready to go. I think its body time!

OK, after digging my original Sunburst wheels out of storage and fitting them to the new frame my mind is turning. I think we are heading down the 427 street car option. Thanks Mando, it has been fun. |
I think a street 427 is great way to go! I'm around these cars a lot and I get tired of the SC style that everyone has. Nice clean lines of a street car would be unique and stand out.

Hope to get back on the scratch build over the winter, here is the trans mount for a TKO 600 trans, and test fitting the hand brake handle.

And you did that in - how many days? Were the chassis brackets all laser cut? How did you position the trailing link bracket at the chassis. That gave me the biggest headaches... |

The frame build took a little longer than I had hoped but I had to make all my own patterns etc. All parts were hand cut and folded by me as well. I had to use my friends large brake to fold the fuel tank straps and rear section. My brake is not quite big enough for those parts. The next frames will be water jet or laser cut and now that I have the patterns should cut down on the work a lot. The rear trailing link pickup points were not that bad at all, I used one of my other cars as a reference then mocked up a complete rear suspension and sat it in place, checked every thing twice then melted it on. My post #26 and 43 shows the brackets in place. |

That's a comfortable way to position that bracket...
In 2003 I had all the chassis brackets digitised to have them laser cut. Most challenging was the steering rack bracket. They always had to bent a few versions until they got that right. Your best source for more info is Mickmate. We shared a lot of know how since then. I merely finish up here and complete one more chassis with leftover parts. I did modify it slightly to accomodate more avaiable parts (i.e. XJ6 diff). Get pats water cut rather then laser. I found welding lasered parts a bit tricky. Keep it up! |

Got to work on the rear brakes a little, had to make up a set of brake caliper brackets, used csx 4000 brackets as the basic design.
