My Question is why put tires on a perfomance car that are so dangerous and then sell to a person and hope they don't drive it hard because they are such a bad tire!!!! But I get it now. You guys are right put good tires on your car and if you sell or advertise your car or product put these crappy tires on it. Good idea.
And that is 11 $100k cars. Just his cobras. Not to mention his origanals or 150 mustangs.
Three Peeks I am not here to start a fight. Really I am not. Just trying to understand why a tire with such a bad rep. like these are being put on so many cars. And to save money to put a car at Barrett Jackson I don't buy. But like I said I have not had my car on the road yet I just may hate them (and hope I don't kill myself or anyone else) but if thay are that bad I wll not sell my Cobra (if I have to) with BFGs on them and hope the person just takes it home and looks at it. Tha is all....
Any buddy else feel me?

Could it also be that the T/A's have been around for such a long time that they seem period-correct? My recollection (not warranted to be accurate) is that the performance tires of the late 60's and early 70's were the Goodyear Polyglas and the Firestone Wide O-val. I think the T/A's came along shortly thereafter and were represented to be a performance upgrade over the other 2. The Uniroyal Tiger Paw was introduced in there somewhere, too. Any tire historians out there?

You are absolutly on point with that! In 1972 the TAs WERE an "upgrade" over the bias-belts Polyglas or Wide Ovals. The TAs are close to "period" and buyers at BJ and other drug fests are conditioned to expect them. I just wouldn't DRIVE on them............
In a 15" tire on a Cobra there are limited choices today but I wouldn't put the TA in the running. Yes, Avons are expensive but you get the performance you would expect. The Mickey Thompson SRs and STs are a vastly better tire than the BFG and not much more expensive.

This thread reminds me of what happens on the Porsche
Forum " when you mention the word o*l. It will just keep going
And going.
It's simple " if your just bangin around town " some spirited driving " some cool burnouts
and just plain driving . BF t/a is just fine and work extremely well.
If your going to be getting more serious about driving and participating in any variety of motorsports" you are going to be using purpose built tires.
My favorite is reading people banging on t/a"s like your taking your life into your own hands by even starting your car with them on ... Stop it already At no time in any language dies BF claim that ta"s are competition. Class tires ". They are simply quality tires with some performance characteristics mainly used on muscle cars ". Not race cars Muscle cars
Does anybody remember the never ever ending smak talk about yoko avs ? Then they discontinued them and everyone went ". Damn that was a great tire for the price I had it good.
If ta/s were to be discontinued it would be a real drag for many.... And they are part of muscle car history so some respect is warranted. There not the same rubber and design from 40 years ago"
I am now officially done both reading and writing about T/A"s And yes I run T/A from October to May and Avon June thru Sept .

This is simple and has been explained well to you. You continue to promote your conjecture in the face of real experience. Fine.
You are apparently one of those people who cannot learn from the experience of others and you will have to learn for yourself. Good Luck.

My Cobra had BFG's on it when I got it. With the power these cars are capable of and the light weight, it was like driving on an ice rink!
Switched to Billboards. Once they are warmed up, it's like night and day. Thinking about Avons next, but never back to the BFG's.
BTW, I still have the set I took off the car if anyone is interested or just has a death wish.....

Surrender was a good option, or I suspect the beatings would just continue.....

Ill sell you a pair of Mich Pilot Sports for 200 bucks-they look awesome and are way better than the BFG's 335 & 245's less than 1000 miles on them. I didn't say "T/A" either!!!

I am thinking about Goodyear F1 G3's. 315 35R 17 and 275 40R 17 on the front. 10/32 treaqd depth to star and F2 in softness. Good for 150 mph. I like the tread pattern.
